its simple. if u have a loss in 1 year that offsets profits in the following year. all businesses, large and small, use this. a farmer can have a crop faiure, or there can be natural disasters that result in a store being closed for an extended period. it happens. its not a loophole, its common sense. and has to exist until the income tax is abolished
