Okay thanks. I've never been to that area but thought everything touching DC was contaminated.
It's definitely contaminated but Virginia is a Dillon's Rule state and the GOP has kept the progressive stuff out for the most part. Recently, however, the Dems took both houses and the governor's mansion. Virginia lost private sales and localities were allowed to set their own gun rules at that point. Lots of public places are no-carry now.
If you drive from DC into Virginia on I-66, you won't see a Virginia Welcome Center until you hit Manassas which is about 30 miles from the border. We don't count that contaminated stretch as part of Virginia.
