A 58-year-old airport worker was charged Friday with allegedly planning a suicide bombing at a passenger terminal at the Wichita Mid-Continent Airport in Kansas.

The suspect, Terry Lee Loewen, an avionics technician who lives in Wichita, was arrested earlier in the day as he attempted to use his security pass to drive a vehicle that he thought contained explosives onto the tarmac at the airport, law enforcement officials said at a news conference in Wichita. In fact, the car contained only dummy explosives.

U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said Loewen spent months developing a plan to drive a carload of explosives to the airport terminal and that he was determined to trigger the bomb himself and die in the blast.

Loewen, who is white, became radicalized after reading extremist Islamic material on the Internet, Grissom said.

1. FBI sniffs out extreme personalities on the internet.

3. Ask them how they feel about really doing something about their newly formed beliefs.
4. If said patsy is gullible, on psychotropics, or suffering from blunt head trama; they will be ready for stage 5.
5. Discuss targets where you would like the sting operation to be done.
6. Give the patsy fake explosives with time/place plan all laid out.***
7. Arrest patsy and announce that you have once again saved the country from a terror attack.

You forgot the very last part:

This is in my neck of the woods. I read the FBI complaint and while this guy was already radicalized and bent on being a participant in "violent jihad", there's no question in my mind he was not capable of pulling this off beyond being a useful idiot. His only correspondence was with two FBI agents. Basically, here are the pieces he participated in:

- Made himself available through his knowledge of and access to the airport.
- Did some rudimentary reconnaissance and surveillance.
- Purchased some materials (presumably for the detonation device).
- Wired up what he thought was a bomb.
- Tried to use his newly obtained tarmac gate access (which was disabled prior to arrest) to drive the car into position.

The 21-page complaint only includes his electronic communications to the FBI employees, not those of the employees. So there's no way to know for sure just how much of the "operation" was planned by the FBI. Probably most of it but they obviously won't put that in print. They'll take their chances this never even makes it to a courtroom.
