FDA Declares Form of Vitamin B6 a Drug, Effectively Banning Pyridoxamine from Dietary

It's setting the formal current precedent to convert all the effective nutrients into 'drugs' based on similar unilateral, monopolistic determinations from the FDA. Just another reason for states to go ahead and secede, or nullify absurd federal regs.

Vitamin B6 is a vital part of the human body. It is critical for humans to consume B6 because it acts as a catalyst for many of the bodies most important chemical reactions. The best way to get B6 is through meats, fish, whole grains, veggies, nuts, and seeds. Vitamin B6 cannot be synthesised in the human body, therefore it must be obtained through the diet. The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for vitamin B6 is 1.3mg for men and women ages 19-50. RDA is simply a measure of the average daily dietary intake needed to meet nutrient requirements of healthy adults.

Studies have shown that vitamin B6 has been beneficial for many common health issues. People have been using B6 to slow down the effects of carpal tunnel syndrome for several years now. B6 has also become one of the leading remedies for comforting the often painful symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.

Despite being an essential vitamin for cell formation and critical chemical reactions, the most intriguing facet of B6 is the positive effect it has on the human brain. Studies have shown that consuming the recommended amount of vitamin B6 each day can drastically reduce the symptoms of autism. In fact, B6 is the number one used supplement in alternative medicine to cure autism. One of the largest problems facing children today is attention deficit disorder (ADD). Some studies have shown that B6 can improve the restlessness, aggressiveness, and mental "fog" that ADD patients face.

Most Americans have a healthy level of vitamin B6. Since it is found in so many common foods, most people are usually getting plenty of B6 in their everyday diet. Adults and kids with extended time periods of having a poor diet are vulnerable to having a vitamin B6 deficiency. Consistent alcohol abusers are vulnerable as well. Symptoms of deficiency include skin inflammation, glossitis (sore tongue), depression, confusion, and convulsions. Taking a B6 supplement is highly recommended if they are unable to increase intake through the diet. Being a vegetarian, I've had a tough time consuming as much vitamin B6 as I would like to. I've been experimenting with different dietary supplements to try to help me get what I need. My favorite product so far has been StudyPIL. It works instantly and the more I use it the better it feels. Many college students like myself are taking this pill to help them study. When I'm done studying, it helps me focus on whatever other task I decide to tackle. StudyPIL has 16mg of B6 per serving, which is eight times the minimum of what's needed. My fears of not getting the proper nutrients have been squashed. The website can be found at http://www.studypil.com I highly suggest you pick yourself up a bottle.

Probably because it can keep you from getting sick and thus deprive the drug companies from making money selling you their junk to cure what the vitamin would have prevented in the first place.

Well said!!! This is a thoroughly disheartening loss.:(

Hello. I live in Spain but I consume a lot of supplements from USA and I work in this field.

I consume Pyridoxamine since 6 moths ago. Note that FDA has banned not vitamin B6, but a specific and not so common form of this vitamin called chemically Pyridoxamine.

The main seller until now of Pyridoxamine is.... Life Extension Foundation, oh! a famous anti-FDA medical organization. I love Life Extension Foundation, so! Even I am a consumer member of this organization.

Pyridoxamine is a excellent antiaging compound since it prevents an aging mechanism called glycation. The best information about this form of vitamin B6 probably is in an article Life Extension Magazine.

"Unique form of Vitamin B6 Protects Against Complications Related To Diabetes and Aging"
http://search.lef.org/cgi-src-bin/M...rd=PYRIDOXAMINEOR PYRIDOXAMINES pyridoxamine

Pyridoxamine is a specialized form of vitamin B6 easily converted in the body to pyridoxal 5-phosphate (PLP), the active form of the vitamin.

Pyridoxamine may therefore offer hope in combating the ravages of aging in general and of diabetes in particular.

Pyridoxamine may help prevent diabetic complications by blocking formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and advanced lipoxidation end products (ALEs) underlying loss of structure and function accompanying aging.

AGEs are implicated in diabetes-related conditions including kidney disease (nephropathy), visual loss (retinopathy), and neuropathy.

Animal models have shown benefits of pyridoxamine in these conditions, and evidence from clinical trials is promising.

Pyridoxamine has been described as “the most potent natural substance for inhibiting AGE formation.”

Pyridoxamine may enhance the effects of other compounds thought to preserve kidney function, including CoQ10 and silymarin.

If you are interested in Pyridoxamine I recommend you buying it at www.lef.org while its available.

Looks as though a company found and patented a similar molecule before "B6" was ever marketed as a supplement(in the pyridoxine-complex form). This should be a copyright issue and not a case of drug classification. It's not as nefarious as it looks. Other forms of B6 should be completely unaffected.

Zuras, but Pyridoxamine is the best kind of vitamin B6, its the most antyglication form. Its a unique antiaging agent. Read this as i said in previous post:

hence why self-ownership rather than medical efficacy is the only way forward for combating the war on drugs.

That's retarded. You shouldn't be able to patent something that already exists.

It's not quite that simple. Although it may seem "retarded", the whole issue is very complicated. This is why they have patent lawyers.

Bottom Line: If it's good for you, there's a group of very powerful people that don't want you to have it. You see, they make alot of money off of sick people and B6 is cutting into their profits. Why do you think it is so hard to eat healthy food?

I've read articles everyday on the tyranny of the FDA.

I'm going to throw up now.

FDA officially messing with the wrong people.

Now if we could only organize protesters by menstral cycle...

-t

easy enough.... think google and bird flu, all we need is a ton of info. on it, play our cards right w/ the keywords ("cramps" "period" "menstrual cycle") , link the threads everywhere and then work a little google-fu...

It's interesting that Medicure Pharma, Inc. petitioned the FDA to ban B6 (Pyridoxal-5'-phosphate) as a supplement 2 months after the conclusion of its Duke University Phase III study on the efficacy of P5P on heart disease patients.

More good news. Medicure is now moving from the heart to the brain.

P5P is shown to also assist in carpal tunnel syndrome and PMS. Guess where they're going next? Hmm........

I think I'll file for a patent on air.

My supplements say pyridoxine hydrochloride. Is that different than pyridoxamine?

Him being a nature boy about healing seems to me would make that quote more akin to his likely opinion not less. I say that as well because I am adverse to most conventional methods and self treat with herbs and so on.. and I despise the thought of gov't controlling our health and diet concerns.

Soilent Green is made from people!!!!!!

The same thing happened with L-Tryptophan. When the manufacturer of Prozac came out with their new product, they had the FDA ban L-Tryptophan because it did the same thing as the Prozac. Later when the patent expired on the Prozac, the FDA came in and lifted the ban on Tryptophan.

Seems like people are catching on as to the dirt the FDA is doing. I have a hunch, somebody at the FDA is getting a pay off to do these things. Or is that what they mean when they say lobbying?
