In case anyone didn't see this, Doug Wead answered the question on whether or not Ron was receiving debate coaching. Here is his response...

"Yes, but he doesn't like it."

I think this is good. At least Ron is trying something new in order to boost his performance in the debates, even if he doesn't like it.

If he doesn't trip over himself. Old dog and new tricks. Still, just memorizing a half dozen sound bites to START an answer to foreseeable attacks would make a world of difference. With maybe just two or three 'don'ts'.

Doesn't matter, if he gets a topic he's passionate about he'll throw it all aside anyhow. But then, that is when he is at his best, in any event.

Well Doug, tell him I'm sure those thousands of his patients didn't like giving up smoking and drinking, but it was best for the child. Debate coaching is what's best for the nation.

He's going to trip over his words a bit but he needs to frame the foreign policy argument differently. Frame it in terms of the Constitution and the upcoming insolvency of the wars, not based on what OBL said (even though it's so silly to ignore what the supposed enemy says but I guess that's 'patriotic' to a lot of the GOP)

yeah i saw that, and it is definitely new because in dougs last chat he specifically said Ron was NOT taking any debate help. Hopefully this plays dividends.

I have a feeling it was at the Reagan debate where he tried to use the coaching, this last debate seemed like pure paul.

As long as it doesn't cause Ron to trip up, I see this as being a good thing. I would be happy with him either way, but I like that he's trying it. We'll see how it goes in the next debate, I suppose.

Ron "GET OFF MY LAWN" Paul returns! And I mean that in the nicest way possible! I am glad Ron is at least grudgingly saying "alright, alright, fine, sheesh". It makes me crack up just thinking about his expression when the campaign staff tries to convince him of this.

I think its a bad idea.

If it's done as an endless argument where Ron Paul can sharpen HIS OWN debate style it's the best idea in the world. If it's "traditional" debate coaching where he just tries to memorize soundbites and talking points, then yes it's obviously a bad idea.

But I think Ron Paul can get sharper and more concise within his own style if the debate coaching is done right, and I think the last debate demonstrates that he has been doing just that.
