I was 9 years old at the time but I remember it on the news. They're making a movie out of it. Charlize Theron is in it.

Edit: I don't advocate violence. The WTO protest started off peaceful but, in my opinion, the police escalated it to what it became.

No, but I expect Gov goons in the audience throwing popcorn to make the movie look bad.

I wasn't there, however a friend who was there told me he was fairly certain that the folks that initiated the violence were not protesters.

Most likely APs (Agent Provocateurs). One violent act justifies, to the cops, that they are free to take physical action towards anyone who looks threatening or even those just trying to help someone in trouble. It doesn't change.

Every protest nowadays has it's problems and we need an organizational staff that addresses the issues that might arise and creates a plan to combat them.

Yup... they were Agent Provocateurs all right. This film is quite an eye opener. The police were told to STAND DOWN and allow the orchestrated violence to continue so that they could declare Martial Law the next day, which they did, and arrest peaceful protesters. That event alone has given "protesting" and "activism" a bad name.

They've trained us well, but we're waking up. The race is on.
