Does anyone here like ska?

Reel Big Fish is coming to Nashville this weekend and I can't wait. I haven't seen a good ska show since Orlando in 2001, and that was with the OC SuperTones.

Modern ska is quite lame-it's usually more "fusion" than pure ska. Practicioners of pure ska don't exist in mainstream American music. All of the American ska bands I've heard are quite bad.

This kind of thing is good ska:

Yeah, there's definitely a difference. Real ska:

YouTube - Simmer Down

YouTube - A Message To You Rudy

And then...

YouTube - Mighty Mighty Bosstones - "Where'd You Go?" Taang! Records

YouTube - Operation IVY - Sound System

YouTube - Rancid- Time Bomb

And I like it all. I still listen to OpIvy quite a bit.

To me, ska and rocksteady sounds like pure, unadulterated joy condensed into music. I can't feel down while listening to it.

i dont know if it is possible to be depressed while listening to ska. it's like bright white light, it naturally makes you happy.

I used to be a huge ska fan. I still listen to it from time to time. I even just saw Streetlight Manifest last week in Toronto...
I like SM even though they are serious. RBF and Supertones and FIF and Mad Caddies and Catch 22 don't take themselves too seriously. SM is a lot more melodic, poetic, and less of the punk/metal influence which I think is a good balance. I like them all :)

One of the great music options of the 1980's. Many pop artists brought it to the mainstream including one of my all time favorite bands- The Clash. The Only Band That Matters according to their slogan. Ska is a party for your brain. You can't keep still when listening. I can't anyways.

An over-looked 80's star Garland Jeffreys with Graveyard Rock

An interesting clip I found- sound seems a little out of sync though.

I saw RBF live in Detroit once, and they were pretty dam good. I love the album "Turn the radio off", but I'm not too aware of any other material they have. They played with Less Than Jake and Streetlight Manifesto, when I saw them. It was a great night.
