Yes. Ron Paul will speak at the Convention, and he may be offered a position in a McCain cabinet as part of a deal.

McCain and the GOP WILL HAVE NO CHOICE but to UNIFY ALL REPUBLICANS!

That's like saying that Bush's ratings are sub-30%, so he'll have to start listening. Or, it's like saying, hey we voted you in, now you have to represent us to any of our Congresscritters (with a few notable exceptions).

Ron Paul is a politician. Am am sure he is open to offers to drop out and/or support McCain.

Remember Reagan visiting Gorbachev, and coming inches away from a new arms treaty, only for it all to be scuttled by disagreement over space-based defense? Remember Reagan and Ford negotiating all the way to convention day in 1980 about a possible Reagan/Ford ticket?

I expect something like this to take place before the convention.

McCain and Paul WILL talk. They will each deploy some brinkmanship in the negotiatiations. Then somebody will say "that's it, no deal" or "ok, you've got it."

It's politics. As long as there is time left to haggle, they can and probably will.

Personally, I'd like to see them NOT reach a deal. I don't want McCain's disaster of a campaign be blamed on "reaching out" to Paulites, and our arguments shut out in 2012.

This is a bit counter productive. I dont see any possibility of me voting for mccain; ron paul cabinet spot included, but that doesnt mean I wouldnt like to see paul in the cabinet. I'd see it as a step forward.

Anyway, I think paul can get himself a speaking slot. If the GOP gives him a decent or great one, we ought to let it happen and hold to our word of not making a scene... however if they refuse, I'd like to see us make the most noise possible, including using some of that money in the bank for an ad during the conventions time slots.

Paul's endorsement would probably not add many votes to McCain's totals. But it could help quiet the open hostility towards McCain, and that's probably enough for him. I am sure he is weighing out just how sweet an offer, he's willing to tolerate making.

I can't really imagine Paul "endorsing" McCain, though. Paul may be willing to take a more "vote your conscience" sort of stance, and be willing to stay out of supporting Barr.

If Ron Paul doesn't get the nomination and if he believes that the GOP can win this year, he should most definitely accept a position as Secretary of State, Defense or Treasury. That will give him more credibility and more opportunities not just to spread the message but to make a real difference. He's a GOP congressman now so I don't see any drawbacks to accepting an upgrade to Secretary of something.

However, if he believes that the GOP can't win this year, it would be much better for him not to accept any position or deal. That way he (and we) can try to completely take over the GOP after the lost election.

If RP throws his support to McCain, I'm SO outta here... It goes against everything I've known about the man for well over a decade. That's like making the injection while professing to be against the death penalty. THINK ABOUT IT!

It will be interesting to see how the convention unfolds - they may give Paul a minute speaking role (on a day that no one really watches) as an appeasement.

Actually, whatever speaking spot they give him, they'll intentionally fuck up with technical glitches - same story as always... The GOP only sells us sour milk.

Only if he wants his loyal base to abandon him. Ron Paul would never do this, of course, but if he did, well I'm sure I won't be the only one feeling like the biggest sucker in the world. In fact, I'd be enraged that I ever gave money to him.

The only position that I would accept him accepting would be the head of the Federal Reserve (ironic perhaps, but he could limit their excesses). At least then, he'd have some independent authority and wouldn't have to answer to McSame. But Bernake can't be replaced just yet in any case.

if they dont let ron paul speak... ohhhhhhhhhh man are we ever gonna start gaining numbers fast. I think all of us will become VERY motivated, even more than we currently are if he is not allowed to speak at the RNC

No matter what it's good for us. We can use this to our advantage no matter what... we have the upper hand.
