DIEBOLD ALERT! Involvement

I didn't understand what you were trying to do. Could you have people with digital cameras to photograph the receipts. With these cameras the date can show on it plus one can check to see if it is clear photo before the people leave.

I suppose that would work. Guess I was thinking of a handheld scanner, but digcams would do the job. As long as we could extract, evaluate and produce the evidence quickly.

We need to rainman this, brainstorm it. Best if we could keep a running tally, but that would require full participation on behalf of RP voters. Many people treasure their precious secret ballots, for whatever good that does them when the other guy "wins." So expect 20% nonconformance, which may ruin any attempt to document the votes. Any ideas to convince that 20% to show their cards, keeping in mind you're not going to know who is a RP voter?

Headline Fox News 2011:

Ron Paul Spammers add 3 Trillion Dollars to U.S. Economy. When will the charade end?

Thanks a lot, I'm glad somebody is organizing an exit poll. We MUST make sure this poll is not rigged.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. These things need to be DESTROYED! It makes me so angry. Hurray for absentee!

I thought absentee ballots were counted in a recount situation. Perhaps only a few states do that.

It's not organized to my knowledge. Shall we form a team? We need 2x team members, where x = number of polling booths. Volunteers with digital cameras, sign up here:

We could download all the pictures of the votes to a central site.
With windows xp if you just select all the pictures then right click on them then select send to and then pick email a window pops up saying send as reduced size or send as is, if one picks send as reduced all the pics should be under 75kb and small so it can be easily read on the net.

Brad's Blog is the definitive site for keeping up with electronic voting. Brad Friedman is a Democrat, and he covers other things, but he was instrumental in getting Congress to take a second look at electronic voting. I've been following him for over a year, and he's relentless. Bookmark this page, because you'll hear it all here first:

When I voted last election cycle it was on one of these machines and I got a receipt that it printed out afterwards. I'm pretty sure it indicated what I voted for on it. People need to be sure to keep these in case anything funny happens.

Allowing you to leave the polling place with such a receipt would violate anonymity, therefore incentivizing the purchase or influence via force of votes. So I would expect it to be illegal in an official election...however I'd expect the Iowa GOP can run their straw poll any way they want to and that it likely not be a crime for someone to rig the straw poll...and furthermore that there would be no real way to pursue an investigation of the straw poll other than through public pressure. With that said, any plan you guys come up with needs to be bulletproof so you can convince people, without any doubt, that fraud occurred if in fact it did. I haven't seen any plan other than the one I proffered that meets that requirement...and I haven't gotten any feedback on that plan either. So it seems there is no real interest in pursuing this.

I do believe that Jim Condit's plan (as described earlier) can do nothing but hurt the campaign and in the best case is a complete waste of time and money of anyone who participates.

Avalon, speaking of anonymity, in Nashville, you have to print your name and return address on the envelope. The ballot goes INTO that same envelope, not into another envelope inside the one with your name and address. That means that absentee ballots are NOT anonymous in Nashville. I don't know how the rest of TN does it.

I about fell over when I saw this in '04.

Yes that's true. In fact, no simple measure like that can protect the 'secret ballot' quality of an absentee ballot. I could easily pay or threaten someone to fill out their postal ballot the way I wanted them to and then mail it myself to be sure. But I've never heard of a similar flaw at the polling place (allowed to leave with a copy of your ballot, allowing an advisor/supervisor enter the booth with you, etc). Please correct me if I'm wrong.

There are practical flaws with absentee ballots too. There is no guarantee it will get to its mailing address, there is no guarantee it will be retained upon receipt, there is no guarantee it will be secured at all times (from being altered), and there is no guarantee it will be counted. And there's little recourse, oversight, and accountability over any of this.

Well, that's the point.

It's just that they don't even try to pretend that absentee is secret in Nashville. I was shocked.

Hope everyone is ready!

We're conducting a parallel vote regardless. We've also sent a Demand letter to the Iowa GOP.

Please be at the Holiday Inn Conference Center(Ron Paul Meetups Headquarters located 1 mile South of the Straw Poll grounds, 2609 Elwood, 5pm in the Charolais Room on Friday).

This room will also be available to Ron Paul fans all day Saturday for our Volunteers to relax, get cooled off, and as an organizational and general meeting place.

Don't waste the space! If he wins we will have a Party there Saturday evening!
