I think the main reason they boo'd that comment is because in their eyes, OBL threw that out the window when he helped commit the attack on 9/11. neocons are/were angry and wanted retribution for what they see as a completely unmotivated/unprovoked killing of american lives. i think the crowd took it as ron saying give OBL a pass.
it just wasn't the right way to wrap up that message for that crowd. SC is such a heavily militaristic state that most of those people probably border as ultra-nationalists. if you view them as such, a lot of their cheering/booing starts making more sense.
