We are 7 months away from a date that has been hyped for years and apparently has been predicted by more than one culture for thousands of years. My question to you is, what do you think will happen on this day? Might as well make your predictions while we're still around to hear them :p

I have transitioned through several different beliefs over the years. But right now I honestly believe that on 12/21/12 extraterrestrial aliens will reveal themselves in a return-of-Christ-all-will-know manner.

Many people believe the world will end on this day. The Mayan Long Count Calendar does end on this day (some say it really ends 12/23/12). Though from what I understand, the Mayans themselves don't believe this. They believe time is cyclical and that this is simply the end of one phase in Earth's time. Their calendar merely rolls over into a new Long Count. I think the Mayans also say that the world will end as we know it, which is completely different than the world will end.

There's also something about that date being the end of a 26,000 year procession of equinoxes and such. And something about the Earth aligning with the Milky Way on that date. I can't remember the details right now.

Discuss.

I predict that the winter solstice (1st day of winter) will occur. Beyond that, I don't expect anything of any particular note (other than stuff that could just as easily have happened on any other day).

I predict we'll be four days from Christmas.

Considering the age of this planet, any galactic allignments have already happened before and we're still here.

The Mayan God/men return through the worm hole to scoop up a fresh batch of earth hotties taking off just in time before the Christians & Muslims nuke each other over a piece of land that they misinterpreted as holy when actually it was a landing pad for the space brothers who reappear moments before the missiles hit the ground much to the dismay of both sides.

The space brothers recognize the non-aggressive people of the world and take them on a joyride through the universe and after the party return them to earth which has, to their delight, already passed through the nuclear winter and millions of years of cosmic time.

Leaving the earthlings back on their now pristine planet, the space brothers remind them to never forget what happened. After they leave the people of earth hold a ceremony at the launch site each year and start to squabble over who controls the now sacred site. The earthlings split of into waring factions and forget about the space people.....

Or

Nothing happens

When I was a kid, before I knew any of the Mayan calendar EOTW stuff, I had frequent dreams that Jesus returned and I got sent to hell. I kept pushing myself to get right with God (not that I was wrong, I was just afraid of going to hell…religion does that to you). Finally I again had a dream that Jesus returned and God was going through his book of life (or whatever its called). I gave him my name and he told me which line to stand in. This time it was the line for the glass elevator to heaven (kinda like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). Before I got on I asked God what age does he hold children accountable for believing in him...he said 19. I asked this question because I had a sister who died at 4 (because of muscular dystrophy) and I wanted to know if she would be in heaven, but when I woke up I for some reason took it as meaning I'd die when I'm 19. It wasn't till a few years after that I heard about the Mayan calendar. I did the math and realized that I'll be 19 the day the Mayan calendar ends (I turn 19 next month).

I always thought that was kinda weird.

Kinda OT: I also had a dream after my aunt died a some years ago, that she returned to earth to say goodbye. All she talked about was meatloaf (it was her favorite meal), but I took it as meaning she was in hell since I knew from my mom's Meat Loaf albums that he sings Bat Out of Hell. Religion can be extremely disturbing. :(

You've been here since you were 14? That's some dedication. And I thought I was young.

Is there any real basis for this idea? I have heard this before. I think it would have dramatic consequences if it really happened.

Any pole shift that occurs as part of the procession of the equinox would have already happened a thousand times throughout Earth's past. If there's any validity to such claims, our species has survived them before. I wouldn't be concerned.

I'm not concerned about anything at this point. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the show, even if there isn't a show. I believe it happens every 26,000 years. It's possible that it wreaks havoc on Earth's inhabitants and then everything has to recover.

There will be a show even if the world does not end. People will panic and start all sorts of shit on a global scale. This could actually turn into the end of the world, but by mass hysteria rather than an actual catastrophic event. Stay inside on that day, you never know what orders the police will be given and how out of control they will get with non lethal as well as lethal force.

^^^ Read that again, dear forum reader. I am indeed staying inside.

December 21, 2012.

A day exactly like no other. I'll live. Learn. Love. Hate. Bolster and excoriate.
