DC - helicopter & passenger jet collide in mid-air

Preliminary flight data from the deadly plane crash in Washington, D.C., shows conflicting readings about the altitudes of a passenger jet and Army helicopter that collided near Reagan National Airport and killed everyone on board the two aircraft, investigators said over the weekend.

Data from the American Airlines flight recorder showed an altitude of 325 feet, plus or minus 25 feet, when the collision happened Wednesday night, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) officials told reporters on Saturday. Data in the control tower, though, showed the Black Hawk helicopter at 200 feet, the maximum allowed altitude for helicopters in the area.

The roughly 100-foot altitude discrepancy in the data has yet to be explained.

Investigators are working to retrieve data from the helicopter’s back box, which is taking more time because it became waterlogged after submerging into the Potomac River, in hopes of reconciling the difference. They also said they plan to refine the tower data, which could be less reliable.

OK, reporting is always confused and erroneous, but something is fishy here.

How accurate are altitude readings? Are they really telling us that the altitude is plus or minus 25 feet for a passenger jet, and plus or minus 100 feet for a helicopter? This in a place where the jet and helicopter are crossing paths with only a 100 foot margin of error? That does not make sense, and it's hard to believe that modern equipment is that inaccurate.

And now the helicopter black box is "waterlogged"? WTF?! The entire purpose of the damn thing is to not get ruined by a crash, fire or water. Sounds like an excuse thrown out by an ignorant middle manager (or military equivalent).

After watching both videos, the experts agree. The primary fault lies with the helicopter, who asked for visual clearance when they were too far away, continued to identify the wrong aircraft to avoid, and obviously, being at the wrong altitude.

They also both agree on a systemic error, which was the FAA allowing such close quarters in the first place.
 
Is it possible this chick was so depressed and angry about Trump getting elected, she flew the helicopter into a plane full of kids?

Possible, but unlikely. You won't get any clues from her social media, which was scrubbed. Next question, was she on or recently off of SSRIs?

I can't imagine what it might be about their media diet which might have given them that impression...
