I just got back from my first trip to Alaska, so that makes me an expert. LOL! It's pretty rural up there. The bigger cities that I saw, which were Fairbanks and Anchorage, were smaller than I thought they would be.
Fairbanks is where I spent the most time. There aren't many building codes, and housing value for tax purposes is reportedly assessed at street view value. So people go to great lengths to make their house look like crap from the road.
If this is an internet relationship, be wary. The ratio of women to men in Alaska is much lower than average. Therefore, it's pretty unusual to find single women.
Everything is expensive. Except land and taxes.
It's not uncommon at all to find houses without running water.
I'll add more as my thoughts come to me.
