They are trying to get a rule change thru that will remove the requirement for 2/3 approval before a bill can be considered for 'same day consideration'.
I believe if this passes they can call any bill and vote with a simple majority without debate. This is the precursor to getting the bailout pushed thru without the normal Constitutional safeguards.

I'm not an expert, but it seems scary.

Hence, "Martial Law"

Were you watching CSpan? They actually put on the screen that this type of emergency rule change if reffered in the house as Martial Law.

Doesn't that give you a warm fuzzy feeling.

The rule change allows ANY bill presented today or tomorrow to be rushed to a vote without the normal committee process and without a 2/3s approval of the vote going forward.
I'm not an expert in this stuff, but it seems that they could put up any bill at 2am and whoever is still awake gets to vote and it's passed.
They refer to this type of rule suspension as a "martial law rule' in the house.

If anyone has anymore insight into this please share, I just flipped on CSpan as they brought the house back into session, but I can tell that we want a resounding NO on this one.

but on the top of the screen it says "allowing same-day debate on tax bill" so is that the opposite of what it really means?

Chick on now just said that Paulson will get the unlimited power he was hoping for!

I watched the Dem who introduced the rule change and she said 'any bill on sept 28 or 29', so the immediate effect tonight is this tax bill, but the rule change is for today and tomorrow so it will be in effect for the bail out bill too.

Paulson is still getting the money, but in installments! There fired!

Time remaining for the vote went to zero with the motion losing - but votes are still coming in apparently - wtf?
