Convention may be cancelled for fictitious hurricane

They're just simulating what would happen to have some type of backup plan. This is nothing alarming, yet.

ahem, there will be a Hurricane there - the political Hurricane known as the Ron Paul R3volution!

I lived in Tampa. Hurricanes can happen there, but just below Tampa, in Anna Maria, a lot of the locals believe that there is something in the air that prevents hurricanes from hitting them. Case and point: Hurricane George. If you are curious, read up on that.

Whats the chances we can name the huricane "FREEDOM"?? When we take this whole Fing thing back!!

We used to have fun doing that on military installations that had large warning signs saying "Blast Area" We would get someone acting in front of the sign, as we toss dirt in the air and the high winds would carry it in front of "the actor" faking they were receiving a blast from the same side... took some great photos that looked real. it was fun.
Ironically enough... this just popped up on yahoo..

"TV weather reporter caught faking storm during live broadcast (VIDEO)"

How strange...I've actually been to Anna Maria but didnt hear about that.

I do think its weird they had a drill and then next thing you know we have Hurricane Bud.

I don't think they can invent a hurricane...there either is one coming or not. As much as I would like to engage in the speculation, it would be foolish not to have a back up plan and at this point we don't really know what it is. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_ep2+shtml/173735.shtml?5-daynl#contents

That being said I've always thought they have a weather machine! :p

Oh they do have one...cloud seeding to make rain where needed and stop rain where not needed.

Many years ago, before a hurricane hit Texas, they were flying over the hurricane dropping something, i could not hear plainly but it sounded like Aluminum ...something.

I have no doubt that if something like this were to happen our people would find a way to hold it anyway lol

Can they really predict hurricanes that far in the future?

And the powers to be probably do have some way to create hurricanes.

I think the last time a hurricane came close to the Tampa Bay region was 1985, and it never made it anywhere near inland. It's been 91 years since a hurricane landed there, and while that might meant they're due...it also might mean that it's pretty rare for the air currents to send a hurricane up the gulf then have it make a hard right.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "close"

BREAKING: Coastal state hosting major national event plans contingency in case a hurricane hits during the event.

That said, it is quite dumb of the GOP to host a national convention in the peak of hurricane season on the coast. Especially after a Gulf hurricane forced them to reschedule parts of their 2008 convention, just for PR.

I'm not seeing what you guys are saying.

Aren't they only planning IN CASE of a hurricane?
