CNN Reports: Ron Paul To Take Weekend Off From Campaigning In Iowa Heading Back To Texas

Guy's, its New Year's weekend, people are not going to pay much attention to politics this weekend IMO. Ron deserves to take a weekend off. Its ok.

I understand all the +ve points made here.. But as Paul supporters, we can be rest assured the Fair and Balanced Media is going to start up the speculatron....

I see nothing wrong with spending holidays with family its something to respect about a candidate.. The campain isnt by any means stopping.. all week long theres been caucus prep get togethers.. my local one is tomorow evening.. the supporters are buzzing and organizing..

My gut tells me the media is underestimating ron paul in efforts to get people to assume romney will win.. you could see it with some people.. but it wont be enough to stir us..

Hey, all that matters is what people in Iowa feel about it. I'm sure they respect the family man.

Based on this, that would be my guess. You don't take time off when you are behind.

I think Ron just wants to be fresh for his closing argument. Rand comes out next week as well.

The NBC Marist poll had Ron slightly behind Romney. The smears aren't working to take anyone from Ron who looked into him (Ron does not lose people) but they seem to be working to make second choicers splitting off of other campaigns look at others first. That in the NBC Marist poll is enough to put Ron in second place (but within the margin of error) even though Ron went UP four points from the last NBC/Marist poll.

Des Moines Register poll is out this weekend, though, and that is the gold standard of Iowa caucus polls.

Yes, there is. This campaign still has education instead of winning the white house as the priority.
When you have worked all semester and done your homework, you can sleep before the big final. Ron Paul is keeping it chill because he did the work. The other candidates are the crammers and panicers. Come Tuesday, the weather will be sunny with a 90% chance off establishment ass kicking.

Ron Paul - like a boss.

Pfft. This just shows that Ron Paul is a better family man than Romney or Mr. HolierThanThou. Ron has his priorities in order.

It is one of Ron's principles not to work on Sunday (if he can help it). And he will be on Fox Sunday, won't he? (Not being able to do much about that.) So he's taking a day off before a hugely crammed week. I've seen stories saying candidates at this point have to go with what they have and get it out to vote. GOTV is more us than him. Next week, regardless of placement in Iowa, Ron is going to be going into New Hampshire as well, hard. As some have said, critical as Iowa is, he has to pace himself. Huntsman is attacking him foully and on a personal level in NH and Ron hasn't been back there to address people since the worst of the smears were thrown at him.

Bless New Hampshire's heart, his poll numbers have gone up, regardless.....

first place perhaps is a done deal and there
is such a thing as getting very burnt... we all
saw yesterday's high drama with ms. bachmann!

This is good. I want a fully rested Ron Paul delivering the knockout blow after the holiday. Once Iowa is over the job gets a tad bit harder.

Again with the "we're behind Romney in this new poll". Each poll can be compared to one and only one poll, itself, and in this poll, like every other poll, Ron Paul gained, +2 in NBC/Marist. We were never in 1st in that poll, but we're seeing the same steady gains as seen in every other poll. Just because we're coming to the first milestone does not mean we should panic, the slow n steady approach continues to work.

Ron Paul needs to come out of Iowa/NH standing tall with Mitt Romney to enable him to continue. Remember last year, we were all but done after our less than expected showing in Iowa, 5th. This year, 2nd place is being considered a disappointment against everything we've had to fight against. 2nd!

You'd have told me at the beginning of this year that we were heading into Iowa tied for 1st and polling 20%+ in NH, I'd have slapped you down for setting expectations too high.

And for Ron Paul - Have a Happy New Years, 2012 is your year and I hope you enjoy some time with your family in preparation for the next 2 months.

Nothing is a done deal. But he has a big week coming up starting Monday, as well. And he has to be on Fox Sunday, in any event.

I think RP needs some time off and this is a good move because it puts the light on him being a family man ahead of any assaults right before the caucus. Christmas with RP is in full swing and his presence isn't necessary.

If we come in a close 2nd we will never forget this though.

If we come in a close 2nd, I'll still be pleased. If we come in 1st the MSM will treat it like 4th anyway. We're not going to get an MSM boost, the establishment is not coming to our rescue. We will fight and claw for every inch until we've won the day and when we have history will be written, establishment and MSM be damned.

It does seem to convey confidence, but what about campaigning like we're 10 points behind... always?

I hope this isn't a mistake in the long run.

Iowa Poll: Santorum In Second

Yet another poll of Iowa shows former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum moving up in Iowa — a new We Ask America snap poll from last night shows Santorum taking second among likely attendees of Tuesday’s Republican caucuses with 17 percent. It’s the first poll to show the former senator within striking distance of the lead, as former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is first with 24 percent. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) is third with 14, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is fourth with 13. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), who has slid drastically in most public polling of the state, is fifth with 12, and Texas Gov. Rick Perry gets ten.

I don't trust "We ask America".

I said Ron had gained. But this poll, unlike CNN, does at least make an effort to poll a real caucus population, including independents and a couple of Democrats. So it can't be written off. We have a couple of polls where Ron is in front and a couple where he isn't. I think Des Moines Register's is best and it will be out this weekend. However, none of the polls have Ron ahead of Romney outside the margin of error, and Romney is VERY GOOD at pretending he isn't organizing when he is. He ALSO has stayed organized since last time and started with more support. And a portion of the values voters are coelescing around Santorum who has not been vetted (I wonder if they know he voted for no child left behind, and to raise the debt ceiling 5 times? He has zero claim to fiscal conservatism.)
