+rep for going out there and educating people. Education is key.
Yes, it is. People on this forum need to realize that our battle is much much larger than just this republican primary, and we need to work on doing as much as we can as often as we can. If Jefferson had refused to work with Hamilton because Hamilton was a government loving liberal, there would be no United States today.
All those of you who are criticizing OWS should actually head down yourself. Sure, there are going to be some close minded and unfriendly people. You will find those people in every movement. I spoke to a lot of people both at Zuccotti Park and Washington Square park, and of the maybe 50+ people I spoke to one on one, only one of them was unpleasant to talk to. Everyone else seemed to be pretty friendly, open minded, and interested in discussing economics, liberty, and philosophy. People seemed to be really interested when I would talk to them about currency, since that is something that most people know very little about, and have very few preconceived notions about. If you act like a friendly and likeable person, and (at the very least pretend to) respect their opinions, people will generally respond well and be interested in what you have to say. If you start demeaning and patronizing people like a crazy old crank, then people will simply not care about what you have to say.
Basically, be nice to people, and learn how to phrase things in ways that they will understand. If you are talking to a liberal about healthcare for example, you should probably skip the part where you talk about people providing for themselves and charities providing for the unemployed and you should instead talk about how the pro-corporate policies of both parties have driven up the price of healthcare to the point where it is simply impossible to afford, and all for the benefit of the insurance companies. You must start off by finding common ground.
