China Wants to Build a 50 Square Mile City in the US

We used to have laws about selling our land to foreign countries. It is called national defense.

Lucky for me that Switzerland did not feel the same way and allows residents, even if we are not Swiss citizens buy a home.

Should he have to prove that to the government of Switzerland before he can buy land there?

Only Swiss citizens and "C" permit (permanent residents) can buy property in Switzerland unrestricted. Otherwise, one has to apply for a Auslanderbewilligung which will limit the forigner to the purchase of one residence.

Should I have to prove that I'm not with the Swiss government before I can be allowed to own land in the USA?

I think any non-citizen wanting to own land here should be checked, you betcha.

I am not part of the open borders brigade. I never have been and I never will be.

It's not even unrestricted for Swiss citizens and C permit holders, if they have to prove to someone that they're Swiss citizens or C permit holders before the land they own can really be theirs. And if, after they do prove to whomever it is that thinks they have the right to demand that proof, they're still not allowed to sell their property to someone without the permission of whomever those godlike beings are, then it's still not unrestricted even then.

So I have to prove I'm a citizen first?

If I do, then it's not just noncitizens who have to be checked, it's everybody. And if I don't, then how do you know if I'm a noncitizen and need to be checked?

Also, who gets to decide who is and isn't a citizen? And where did they get the right to do that?

I had to show the C permit when signing the contract to buy, and registering the purchase for the Grundbuch. No problem at all. Nobody asked me a single question.

I would too. Foreign governments are another thing, entirely.

If you read the article the original poster linked to, it is rather obvious that this is more than an economic transaction; the Chinese are looking to do high level work on electric transmission and alternative energy projects in other states (in addition to Idaho).

They're looking to replicate their colonial program that they used in Africa here. I think the Constitution would uphold laws prohibiting, or greatly restricting, the activities of companies whose primary owners are foreign countries.

I am all for the government knowing who the foreigners are in the country. Absolutely. This is not new, you realize. If these people want to buy property in our country, yes, they should be checked.

Which was it? Did they ask you to show the C permit? Or did they not ask you anything?

It sounds new to me.

I honestly don't remember how this worked when I bought my house. Is there really something you have to do to prove you're not a foreigner? If so, what is that?

Showed up with Contract and C permit, they said sign here, and I went on my way. Title Company in the US took longer and had to show two forms of ID there (every time).

Oh, I don't doubt that the US is much worse.

Very good point, especially in light of the 7 to 9 million homes stolen by illegal and fraudulent foreclosures by the banksters. That is just a drop in the bucket compared to what they plan to do, and the overwhelming majority of those loans are owned by overseas investors. So when China calls the notes due, we all might end up living in the streets.
The bold effort the present (central) bank had made to control the government ... are but premonitions of the fate that await the American people should they be deluded into a perpetuation of this institution or the establishment of another like it.

one of my favorite quotes from my favorite president
