China Wants to Build a 50 Square Mile City in the US

after reading the articles, i'm wondering: who in Idaho politics is getting paid to let the Chinese play?

I absolutely cannot believe anyone here applauds this. It just convinces me even more that after Ron Paul is gone, we will all go our separate ways.

I am sure that more than a few here have NO CLUE.
That any would consider this a good idea, proves that.

We used to have laws about selling our land to foreign countries. It is called national defense.

I'm intrigued by this claim. Could you point us to anywhere that has more information about this?

When was it that we had those laws? And what hoops did they make people jump through to prove they weren't with foreign governments before they could buy land?

Regardless of whether its right or wrong to allow "the Chinese government to create economic zones in the United States", I am glad that I have been learning Mandarin. It will prove to be a "survival tool".

Hong Kong was a creation of British imperialism and was forced on the Chinese people at the end of the barrel of a gun. It took over a century for the Chinese to finally kick the British out of Hong Kong.

If you think Hong Kong is more free than America, more power to you. Go move there.

The people of Hong Kong were forced to be under British rule before, and now they're forced to be under Chinese rule. It's not like the people themselves kicked out the British and now live free. They just went from one ruler to another. I agree that the regime in London never had any right to rule them. But I don't see why the regime in Beijing has any more of a right to, or why it's only an empire when the London people rule, but it's not an empire when the Beijing people rule it.

And are you disputing that Hong Kong has long been more free than the US? I'm not up to date with how things are now, but it certainly was more free when it was a British colony, and it wouldn't shock me if it still is. We shouldn't have to move there. We have the right to be free where we are without leapfrogging from country to country every time anyone tries to assert their rule over us.

This thread is single handedly going to be the death of the liberty movement. I always knew Idaho would destroy the nation. Mods, You must put a stop to this hateful dungeon of south Boise before it kills us all.

It's more common sense, then law. In my opinion foreign private investors have every right to invest in this country. Foreign governments on the other hand don't have that right.

that's pretty funny...

i'm trying to look at this from a local aspect, although i don't live in idaho. throw out the free border philosophical and protectionist aspects for just a moment. somebody is getting paid to allow the chinese to play in idaho. the question is: who and how much? the other question: what do the citizens of idaho really think about this? we already know what the elected officials think (for the most part), but what do those they represent?

like most local "economic development" plans, even with american businesses moving in to "develop" an area, i'm pretty certain the whole story is not being revealed to the people.

don't get me wrong, i'm not against development, i've just seen a HUGE amount of corruption on the local level in my own area, and i know better than to think this is a simple win-win situation for idaho.

Well, this is an example of "states' rights" at its finest. Maybe "states' rights" isn't such a grand idea after all?

Of course they don't have that right. They don't have any rights. Neither does the regime in DC, and it owns far more land in this continent than the one in Beijing does.

But if you want to use force stop me from being able to sell my property (that you apparently think is not actually mine) to the regime from Beijing, but at the same time you still want me to be able to sell it to other people who aren't agents of any government, without violating those peoples' rights (such as by making them get pieces of paper from the government that say they're allowed to buy property), then how do you do that?

Some of you still don't get it.
Muslims taking over America?
The Chinese taking over America?
News flash!
America is already taken!
Some wonderful people took over America for decades now.
Muslims and the Chinese are symptoms and the real source disease is hidden in plain sight yet some of you are still fighting over with symptoms.
Another news flash!
You do NOT cure the disease by focusing on symptoms!
You only DO cure the disease by focusing on the source DISEASE!

I live in Idaho and most people are very much against it. I don't really care one way or the other but public outcry is against it.

This guy may be the one making the money but I don't know.

You are correct. This is not development for the people of Idaho. This is development for China.
They state so. This will profit China and employ Chinese Citizens. Not local Americans. This has NO benefit(or very little) to the local economy.
This is a Chinese city, populated with Chinese Communists, Employing Chinese labor. Simply a Chinese expansion on US soil.

So, the only thing that can step in and stop it is the federal government. Should the federal government step in?
