Campaign for Liberty solicitations

If you were involved in the organization then you would know that isn't true. Have you ever met with your state coordinator?

Heh. I remember when ours was supposed to come to one of our county meetings. I felt bad for the county coordinator. He was stalling, dragging his speech out as long as he could, hoping the guy would show up. Finally he decided to call and find out where the guy was, and found out that he had decided to blow us off for a BBQ.

That was the second-to-last straw for me.

There's a difference between marketing and just plain stupidity.

I've also gotten somewhere in the nature of 6-7 emails/piece of mail that have said the EXACT SAME THING.

There's no reason to bombard people like that. I got the first email and I don't need 6 more...

Sounds like a mailing list issue. This can be a real killer for any non-profit if they ignore this issue. Hopefully someone at C4L can get a hold of this thread and correct the issue.

They are professionals. They know exactly what they are doing. Just give them money and be quiet. That is all.

Look, C4L was all but shut down during Ron Paul's campaign. I think only one person was left there to keep it somewhat going. Anyone who didn't work for Ron's campaign, had to go find a job elsewhere and so they did. Now that Ron's campaign is over, those who are left are regrouping and amping up C4L again. C4L didn't have the luxury that YAL did, which was to not be torn up during Ron Paul's campaign. It costs money to run an organization and to have initiatives. So, they are sending out fundraising letters. This shouldn't come as a surprise. No, I don't particularly like Tate's lengthy letters, but you know what, they work with a lot of people, which is why they keep using them. It's old school fundraising and Tate is good at it. The fact is that without Tate, C4L would have had to shut their doors long ago, for lack of money.

They badly need to learn how to utilize social media better. You know that and they know that. That also costs money to hire someone with those skills. These are our guys. They have done a lot of good. I don't understand the hostility around here towards them. If you want to make it better, the way to do that is to get involved in your local C4L, or if one doesn't exist, start it yourself. Attend their trainings, so you know how to be as effective as you can.

I've always found it interesting that threads slamming our own get much more attention than threads that require a little effort to be expended to help our candidates. Why is that, you think?

Yes, there website leaves a lot to be desired, but pick up the phone tomorrow and call CFL HQ and ask them to be put in contact with your state coordinator and tell them you want to help!

I called C4L yesterday asking to put me in contact with my state coordinator. They couldn't tell me who my coordinator is but asked for my name and email and said someone would get back to me. 24 hours later, I still haven't received an email.

You do realize that there are only a very few left at national, right? Cut them some slack. Call them again.

Note: I have asked, no begged, for days on end for some of you guys to help with posting positive comments underneath Amash and Bentivolio's articles. Someone from Bentivolio's campaign, who used to work at c4L national, specifically asked us to please do this. Only a very few have done it. A VERY few. And there are one hell of a lot of more people HERE than at C4L national. Perhaps we should clean our own house first, eh?

I think more people are frustrated at C4L rather than angry at them. We all want them to succeed, well at least I do, which is why we offer constructive criticism but nothing ever changes.

I do but as I said before, I've been signed up to C4L since 2008. I have never received an email from my state coordinator.

Then, he's a POS state coordinator. I'd raise it up the flagpole, if I were you. National isn't going to know there is a problem unless you tell them.

If I can assist with that in any way, send me a PM with the specifics.

There are no specifics. When Matt asked when's the last time I spoke to my state coordinator, I asked myself what is a state coordinator? I live in the largest state, CA, and yet for four years I had no idea there was such a thing called a state coordinator. I can't recall in any C4L emails telling me who my state coordinator is or that we should get in contact. Look, it seems like its an organizational problem. I'm not angry at them. I just hope they clean up their act because I WANT them to succeed. I hope we have an organization like FreeomWorks that we can call our own.

I do too. We badly need that. But, understand that it takes time, money and all our active involvement.

Campaign for Liberty employs Mike Rothfeld and Saber Communications to handle their fundraising and list-building activities. If you're curious as to why their emails look the way the do and ask for money every single time they communicate with you, it's because that's Rothfeld's philosophy of organization-building.

Find out more about who and what you're dealing with. Google Mike Rothfeld and read some of his writings to understand why C4L conducts business the way it does.

The bottom line is this: Tate and Rothfeld are looking to build C4L into a national-level organization on part with the NRA. They have decided that in order to do that, they have to recruit huge numbers of mainline conservatives. If you are wondering why these letters and emails don't sound like they're tailored to hard-core Ron Paul R3volutionaries, it's because Tate and Rothfeld are not trying to throw red meat to you. They're interested in growing their membership list and donor base, and that means writing in a way that appeals to and motivates 65-year old NRA, National Right to Work, and National Right to Life devotees.

That doesn't mean that they don't care about monetary and foreign policy. They do. But they've already GOT most of Ron Paul's voters on their contact list. They're looking to grow beyond that, and to do that, they need money, and lots of it.

That's all well and good. But regardless of an organization's target audience, if they're sloppy (sending the same E-mail 3 or more times is unacceptable), not careful with supporters information (I'd like to know more about the Romney stuff), constantly begging for money, not getting back to supporters/inquirers, and not updating them on the impact of their donations, they're not going to be successful on a "NRA level".

And I'm not saying this as an observer. I used to be on the list myself and unsubscribed for these very reasons. If they'd like to grow and improve, they need to take the suggestions with humility, not excuses (I'm not sure who works for/with C4L on RPF though). I'm a professional fundraiser, and I've had to leave meetings with supporters with my tail tucked between my legs, so to speak. It sucks when you mess up. But apologize sincerely, work with the supporter to find a way to fix it, and move on.

I'd like to speak with whoever is in charge to see if these issues are being addressed. Perhaps supporters on RPF could compile their complaints on a single forum.

So they want to become another useless organization that just is about the money? Didn't NRA endorse Romney? Same with the other loser organizations that do nothing but ask for money and accomplish little to nothing.

I'm just saying they want to get that big and influential, not necessarily be as unprincipled. Don't infer from what I said something I didn't say.

It's not inferring, it's their records. The organizations you listed as examples, and specifically used as examples as to what C4L wants to be like, are pretty much useless giant money organizations that side with government and keep the masses in idiocy, while thinking they're doing some good.

Yeah that's not cool. Well, work to build the organization around that guy, find a suitable replacement if need be.

You have to be persistant. Call back, speak to the same person, and ask them again. They have many things on their plate, but as I said, if you really want to advance liberty, you have to push sometimes.
