Buying my first guns soon, need info in BERETTAS

I'm currently 20 years old and living in CA. I will be 21 in January and am planning to buy my first guns then.

I am from a pretty "liberal" household so I have very little knowledge about firearms other than what I learned in the Boy Scouts (limited, but something), and from going to ranges a few times with friends.

I was pretty set on getting the 92/96 series Beretta pistol and the Cx4 Storm Carbine.

My reasoning for the pistol is mostly aesthetic. I want a "full" size pistol and the 92/96 models are my personal favorite looking. My reasoning for the Cx4 is a combination of aesthetics, ammo compatibility with the 92/96 (9mm), and the fact that it is able to switch from right handed to left handed easily. I am left handed so this is kind of a big deal for me.

My question basically is making sure that these would be good choices in terms of ease of use/learning curve, usefulness for practicing marksmanship, and that im not being ripped off.

Also, any information about where I can go to learn gun safety/maintenance and a place to practice in my area (San Diego and Inland Empire during the Summer) would be greatly appreciated.

Any other pointers are also appreciated. Thanks

I very much like that the pistol and carbine use the same magazines and ammo. This is what I want to get too. .40 S&W

Hello fellow San Diegan.
1. Here in California the Beretta Cx4 is considered an assault weapon making it illegal to own.

2. In order to purchase a handgun you must have a Handgun Safety Certificate. To obtain one you must pass a written exam at any gun shop.

3. The ten round limit applies to the magazine of all firearms. The only way around it is to obtain an assault weapons permit and to register your firearm with the CA DOJ.

4. You must be 21 years old to purchase a handgun, 18 to purchase a long gun.

5. All government buildings (including schools, colleges, and universities) are gun free zones, even if one has a concealed carry permit.

6. Sorry but the only way you or any average California citizen are going to obtain a concealed carry permit in California is if you were raped and maimed by Jack the Ripper's ghost, Freddy Krueger, Jason, and Michael Myers in a tag team caged death match against you on the corner of Elm Street, were put on life support, and on the verge of death. Even then your chances are extremely low.

As for your other questions I have no answers because I too am a 20 year old college student who lives in a household full of anti-gun liberals.

1. Wow, that is unbelievable that I can't own the CX4. How is that considered an assault rifle? It's semi-automatic.......and why should it matter if a private citizen wants to own a............oh yea, this is part of the problem we're facing. UGH.

3. How could I get that assault permit? Or is that just not happening no matter what.....UGH

6. Why does california suck so much?

Also, what school pdavis?

How hard is it to get a concealed carry license in California if I'm 20 and in college?

Also, I've fired .22s and shotguns while in the Boy Scouts, and I've gone to the range and used my friends Mossburg shotgun and Russian Mosin Nagant sniper rifle, so I have a little experience.

Never shot a pistol though...

Impossible... The only people who have CCW permits in California are Hosio Fatmouth, Nancy Pelosi, and Ahnold...

Because by all definitions of an Assault Weapon in the BATFE Rules, the CX4 qualifies as an "evil gun"... It has a pistol grip, a magazine capacity of more than 10 rounds, a detachable magazine, a (relatively) short barrel, semi-automatic, and is pistol caliber. I could get off my lazy ass and go read the actual codes verbatim from the BATFE book in my living room (I'm a collector) but that would be counterintuitive to calling myself a lazy ass.

CA DOJ = California Department of Justice... you pretty much have to work for the police or the federal government to get that permit.

You have no idea.... A guy in Commiefornia got arrested a couple months ago for possession of intact .50 caliber rounds that he brought home with him from WORLD WAR TWO!!! The guy is a combat veteran and a war hero, and he was brought up on "explosive device" charges, and had his entire arsenal confiscated by the Feds... Assholes... But that's California for you.

Now he's a felon and can never own a gun again.

I wouldn't recommend a Beretta to a friend, if that means anything. If you like the looks of the Beretta, perhaps you'll like the looks of a CZ as well, which in my opinion, is a far superior gun.

only piece of advice i can give... move out of kalifornia...

if that's not feasible, just get a Glock 19. that will cover all of your bases, and they are in no way inferior to any other product available to you.

As a Glock 19 owner, I'm going to disagree. He wants a full-sized gun, and the G19 is a compact. A G17 is a better choice.

Actually a 45 has LESS recoil than a 9mm does. Simple laws of physics. For every action there is a similar re-action. While the 9mm does go out of the barrel faster than the 45 there is also the violent reaction of its recoil.

As to magazine capacity the Beretta DOES make a 20 round magazine for it, but NOT for California.

For the Glock you can get a 33 round magazine for it. It was designed for the Glock Model 18 which is full auto capable.

As to what I would get it would either be a Glock Model 21 in 45 caliber or a Kimber in 45. While neither is what I would consider cheap you have to ask yourself one thing. What is YOUR life worth to YOU?

If you do buy a Beretta I have only one word of advice. Do NOT buy Checkmate mags for it! They have problems failing in Iraq and Afcrapastan. I just bought 2 factory 92 mags for my son yesterday as he is deploying to Iraq in June and I wanted him to have a couple of mags that DO work for his sidearm he has to take with him. We are waiting right now for 'official' permission for him to take his own personal side arm which is a 45 though.

Heckler & Koch HK416

^Better than an AR-15 because the gas system doesnt clog the internals of the weapon with carbon. Read more about it.

As far as ease of use, I would agree with the people advocating for Glock. Personally, I like the Glock 21 because of the 45 ACP round because of the stopping power.

I wouldn't go with baretta, and guns are like anything else, you get what you pay for. If you want the best, you are going to have to spend the money to get it. Just make sure to read reviews and do research on your own before you spend money on anything.

I haven't read the whole thread.. but I personally LOVE my Beretta.

I don't know why others hate on it personally:confused: Mine has fired flawlessly, has a very smooth action, smooth trigger, and is very accurate.

I have a 8040D... Mini-Cougar. Nice concealable weapon, with a 8rd and 10rd clip.

20 and 33 rd clips are nice and all.. but you can't walk around with them..lol. I've seen Glocks with that big ass clip, it sticks out of the grip at least 9 inches:eek:

And really... if you need more than 10rds... you came ill equiped for the battle anyway as you can't squeeze off 10rds into 10 different assailants fast enough with a pistol to make a difference (unless they're lined up single file:p), even with a Glock.

My Dad has the 8045D and loves it as well... that's the .45cal version of my .40cal.

A Berretta is a nice gun... I wouldn't trade mine for anything.... except maybe a FN57..lol.
