Buchanan: Syria’s Insurrection is Not America’s Fight

How much treasure should be expended, how much American blood shed so the Muslim Brotherhood can depose the Assad dynasty, take power and establish an Islamist state in Syria?

This is a good question.

I really don`t understand Assad he has a 300 000 strong army and Russia+China to veto anything against him.Why doesn't he just roll over them and secure the borders.Until Syria has complete control over its borders a steady supply of fighters and weapons will constantly come to the rebels not to even talk about foreign special forces.

Time is working against him and not for him.Neither NATO nor SA and the gulf allies are taking any losses. They have a almost unlimited number of expandable recruits and a lot of money. On the other hand he has neither.

I agree with this entirely although it never ceases to amaze how they always put treasure and money before loss of life and bloodshed. "How much will this war cost?" should be in reference to lives, not fiat.

Why are we intervening there? I guess I don't understand. What are some you guys' ideas?

Syria is a complex country. There are many different factions. If Assad was overthrown it could be pretty chaotic for a long time. Right now it seems to be one Islamic sect against anther. We don't want to get into the middle of that mess.

Because most of our politicians in Washington DC believe that God has annointed the United States government to be the policeman of the entire world. They support every intervention.

Why don't we intervene and send the Muslim Brotherhood to unite them?

Cause our media would demonize Assad even more.. for using 300,000 troops on poor "defenseless freedom protestors"... even though those protestors were probably instigated by some western forces to start trouble.

When the fighters of the American revolution rose up against the British, was that a French plot to start trouble?

Sometimes I wonder what percentage of people here actually believe in liberty, and what percentage just want to be contrarian for the sake of it.

I agree we have no business there, but I'm surprised at the hatred here towards people fighting a clearly oppressive government. Those men and women, but for grace, could have been you.

Your use of the word "people" is interesting. Those men and women, but for grace, likely are me and you Americans, just called "special forces." Many of those "people fighting a clearly oppressive government" are not who you think they are.....

Okay, so basically you endorse oppressive government slaughtering innocents... good to know.

Any rebellion where they call for foreign countries to bomb their countryman is not a freedom rebellion. If Ron Paul starts an armed rebellion in Texas and then asks Russia and China to send him weapons and provide air cover so he can fight the Federal government and the federal bank would you call that a freedom rebellion?

Also you were a colony so there is no similarity between your Revolution and Syria.

This are just foreign mercenary's who just want to take over the region so they can be the oppressive regime. What is the point of supporting a revolution when all it will accomplish is "new boss the same as the old boss " the only difference is that tens of thousands will die in the process. This is like a rebellion in NK started to make the country even more communist or supporting MEK in Iran just because they are fighting the current regime.Or if George Washington just wanted to make a Kingdom of America where he would be King, would you then think that the your revolution was about fighting an oppressive regime ?

I'm 100% with you, we should not be even remotely involved.

This is not America's business, Buchanan is right on that.

But people have a right to revolt against an oppressive government, so we shouldn't be mocking them or insulting them either.

Yes they have every right to revolt and I have the right to think that they just want to be the new oppressive regime and that they are traitors and as such should be crushed as soon as possible because the only change they are bringing is in graves and burned houses.Just saying you fight for freedom and democracy does not mean a thing especially in a civil war.If they were a freedom movement they should have already published a new constitution and say what they would change and how.
