While I personally like Rep. McCotter, he has gotten a little bit more liberal each year that goes by. I give him credit though, since he holds a district that voted for President Obama 50-48. So his district isn't that easy to win.

Rep. McCotter hasn't decided what he is going to do, but I would urge all liberty fighters to put some money aside for Kerry Bentivolio (who is on our liberty list). If Rep. McCotter decides to just go retire, Kerry Bentivolio will be the GOP nominee and will need all the help he can get. Rep. McCotter can run as a write-in, but it will be very difficult for him to win the GOP nomination. SUPPORT KERRY BENTIVOLIO FOR CONGRESS!

Kerry has a difficult race ahead, but he may end up being the GOP nominee. I doubt that the NRCC and other establishment groups will be pouring money into his race (even though he has a 50-48 Obama District). So, you can donate to him by clicking on this link: http://bentivolioforcongress.com/index.php?option=com_artforms&formid=1&Itemid=99999

You like Thad McCotter? Really?

Stop. Please.

As for everybody else, this is why we should always try to encourage liberty candidates to run even if it looks hopeless. You can never tell when a DUI or a administrative glitch will work in our favor.

The Democrats didn't really plan on having a candidate win this seat. Their two candidates are:

Bill Roberts (D) - Restaurant Owner & LaRouche Activist
Syed Taj (D) - Canton Village Trustee, Physician & Real Estate Developer

This is doable.

I too have met Mr. Mccotter personally and he's actually a really nice guy, down to earth, etc. However, his record is atrocious on spending and foreign intervention. This opportunity allows us to elect a liberty candidate in a district that is safe republican. We should start looking more closely at this race because it is a highly populated area with a major money market.

I Just hope Kerry can run a good race and not get caught up in hypotheticals.

Dave and I are looking to see what we can do to get the party behind him. The Republicans are chattering about running a guy who chose to drop out of the signature hunt as a write-in instead. Meaning they'd rather see the seat go to a Democrat instead of a Tea Party / Ron Paul Republican.

These are the same people that tell us we have to vote for Romney, because he's on the ballot, and the people that go into a case of the vapors at the thought of Ron Paul mounting a third party run against a Republican.

Good to hear. Kerry seems good enough for me. His answer to the question about overseas bases on the liberty candidates website was weird though. If North Korea invaded the South, the North would be demolished, with or without US help, but maybe he misspoke, either way he is for withdrawal.

To cstarace: In response to your question: "You like Thad McCotter? Really?", this is how I'm going to answer you:

Compared to Rep. Cantor, Upton, or Goodlatte: ABSOLUTELY!

Compared to Rep. Amash, Graves, Broun, or Paul: No.

Thad McCotter is a good man, and I really think he has some good ideas. His spending record is troublesome though, but he at least he has done some good things during his term: For example, he's co-sponsored Rep. Paul's audit the fed bill (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/D?d112:8:./temp/~bdCmA6:@@@P|/bss/|). But compared to Kerry B., I think we should send him to retirement.

so, why might McCotter get removed from the ballot?

edit: nm, I searched myself.

GOP Rep. Thaddeus McCotter might not have filed enough valid signatures to get on Michigan’s August 7 primary ballot, a stunning oversight that could cost him his seat in Congress.

The suburban Detroit Republican, who made a brief run for the GOP presidential nomination last year, filed 2,000 signatures but a spokeswoman for the Michigan secretary of state’s office told the Detroit Free Press Friday night that “duplicate signatures were among the problems with McCotter’s petitions.”

Not enough signatures
Not enough valid sigs is what I am hearing. Not that I have inside sources in that district....but the state is hinting there were duplicates. '

Now the GOPers are whining "He could be left off the ballot on a technicality!" Well, duh. How many times has he done this now? His campaign manager's head will be rolled, I assume.

Well a team needs to be put together to fix Kelly's website, and potentially raise a moneybomb once we know he'll be the only one on the ballot. When will we know that McCottor is out?

Syed Taj looks like a very formidable candidate. He's Chief of Medicine of a hospital and he's raised over $200k already. Kerry has raised only $4k and lent himself $50k. If McCotter is out, Democrats will invest heavily in this race.

Yes, he's the guy to beat, but it looks like the GOP would rather lose the seat than let the TEA Party have it. Typical.

Now that I think about it.....the RPRs and the TEA Party Rs in that district should all ask for Dem ballots, and vote for Roberts. (Hey - they were doing the same thing in the presidential primary!)

How would that help us though
