BREAKING NEWS: THAD McCOTTER MAY GET KICKED OFF THE BALLOT!

This district is a strong Republican district, especially after redistricting. It includes one of the wealthiest zip codes in the entire country, while also including middle class republicans in the Livonia-Milford area. I don't see how a DEM could win this. If we really want to win this seat, we have to prove Bentivolio with a lot of support, Mccotter is going to launch a write-in bid that he will likely win if we don't do anything

The GOP candidate is now running unopposed. Getting Roberts on the Dem ticket would give us a terribly weak candidate to oppose, one the Dems would likely ignore.

Not if McCotter runs a write in, it isn't impossible to win write ins

It would have been more likely McCotter could win a write-in in his old district, but his new district is completely different than the one he's served in for the past few years. He has to reintroduce himself to an entirely different constituency, making it more difficult for him to win.

It's not a strong Republican district. Even after figuring in the redistricting, they went for Obama 50 / 48. Before the redistricting, it was Obama 54 / 45.

Like it or not, the average, working class uninformed Democrat voter is more likely to pull the lever for a "Roberts" than they are a "Taj." (Remember Alvin Green? He won over a guy named Rawls, because people thought his name sounded black.)

And aren't the Larouchies at least anti-war?

No way would the Democrats back a Larouche supporter. Every time one of his supporters won a nomination, dems worked against them, going so far as to form anew party in Illinois when they won a few statewide nominations in the 80's.. Should he somehow get it, I'd imagine they'd try and organize a write in vote.

Of course, the above is why I hope he gets the nomination. ;)

We are making each seat more liberty-friendly each step at a time. :)

I am from that district, have lived there for 6 years, but I recently moved down to Florida about 10 months ago. This is so strange, that he didn't get enough signatures to get on the ballot. He is sort of popular in that district with the regular republicans, but if he's not on the ballot it would seem like a possibility to get one of ours in.

Where I voted in that district, you can't do a write in. Back in 08', I was hoping to write in Ron Paul, but had to vote for the constitutional party, as my protest vote.

The only guy on the ballot is some Kerry Bentivolio.

Amazing that McCotter wouldn't get the signatures. Really, amazing.

This Bentivolio guy seems tea party, fiscally good. Worth supporting, perhaps?

I saw on another thread that he may actually be a liberty candidate. Need more information on him.

Angelatc, do you know Kerry or have you met him? it says he's from Milford, is that near you?

Also, if McCotter chose to do a write in campaign, how does that work, if the ballots don't allow for a write-in?

Looks like Kerry only has 138 likes on his facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/KerryBentivolio .. maybe we could like him and ask him questions on there? He liked Rand Paul and Peter Schiff btw..

He looks good, from what I've read on his campaign site: http://bentivolioforcongress.com/

I want to hear what Angelatc has to say about him, and how the write in campaign would work. Maybe we can show him some RP love, by liking his facebook page and letting him know where all the new support is coming from

You can do write-ins, but they have to turn in paperwork. I can't remember the whole deal, but it's something like you have to file as a write-in up to a week before the election, or you can file at the polling place on election day. We can assume that McCotter probably won't choose the latter method, I think.

Milford is only two towns over, but I'm in Rogers' district, not McCotter's. I haven't met him, but I'll make an effort to after the holiday weekend is over. The local RP lists are buzzing though, and I haven't seen anybody yelling about his credentials yet.

Liking his Facebook page and all that is nice, but...the real deal is money. If he can raise money, the local GOP will come around. It's that simple.

The first thing I do when I hear about a supposed liberty candidate is search the FEC disclosure database and see if they have donated to either of Dr. Paul's presidential campaigns. I don't see any donations from Bentivolio. Not a deal breaker; but it sure would make me more convinced if I saw his name in there. eg: Amash donated to Paul in 2007 prior to his congressional run.
