Heads up, folks

So now it's McCain "vs."= Clinton

This is the best possible scenario for a RP third-party run!

I can already see hardcore Republicans and ultraconservatives, Obama supporters, anti-war activists, coming together and rallying behind a Ron Paul Libertarian or Constitution P. campaign!

What you are going to see is a Clinton Obama VP ticket that can only be beaten by an opponent that gets on television, and third party candidates do not get on television, thus the sheep will not know the third party candidate is "electable."

Never happen. If you can't win Republican, you can forget 3rd party. Convince me I'm wrong.

C'mon, guys
It isn't just about winning
Besides, what's the worst thing that can happen? Libertarians FINALLY get some coverage and poll 8% in a presidential election? Even that would be historic!

he is more valuable just where he is, you have to trust him, he knows what he is doing. Let's move forward. Paul called the fact that there was going to be a brokered convention. In addition, we have several upcoming races, Feb 9th, lets move forward, we can't look in any other direction, we have no down side.

No one met the number for the nomination, so let's move forward. Agree?

I'm in Washington and he should have a good turn out here. I know in my city of 100k, no other candidates have signs out. But there are RP signs all over the place. It's not over till it's over. Super Tuesday was only half the US. RP had on his website how he could win on a brokered convention. Don't be so quick to throw in the towel.

I'm with you. Many Obama people are upset with the Clinton machine and won't vote for her. Many traditional conservatives won't vote for McCain. Many social conservatives will refuse to vote for him once Mrs. Clinton's people expose the mountain of dirt on his personal life.

Its an unlikely coalition, but it could be done. Its probably no more of a longshot than trying to win the GOP nomination was.

I'm ready to dump the Republican party once and for all.

I nominate Ron Paul to be the inaugural candidate of the Constitutional Liberty Party.

See how it goes until all the results come in. If America goes into full blown depression people might start asking questions.
Also, if it is McCain vs Hillary. There would be a lot of unhappy people.

If Paul does drop out tomorrow, I think you should concentrate on distributing leaflets to every house in the US, explaining the financial situation the country is in. And why what they say isn't going to help. You need to discredit ALL the candidates. Anonymously.

Then you need to target their core support.
Hillary- not getting out of iraq, war with iran. with credible sources
McCain- liberal, not going to sort immigration. with credible sources
The above 2 are easier to do but think of other things for Romney and Obama.
But none of the conspiracy stuff.

Do it all anonymously.
Then leave the rest to RP

Nah, because Bloomberg will run if the field is that weak. It would be better to have Romney or huckabee/clinton for RP

limey.. but .. if Paul has dropped out.. what good would discrediting the candidates do? .. I mean.. besides making us all feel good. ? maybe you meant "if paul does NOT drop out tomorrow" ?

but.. we do know now that we can print up a butt load of little newspapers for cheap and we have the organization to get them distributed without many people knowing. http://www.ronpaulnewspaper.com/

become the media? .. fight propaganda with propaganda?

Agreed. Ron knows all the angles of attack, and he's taking the best route available.

While I disagree that "It isn't just about winning"--it IS about winning (in every possible situation), I like your thinking in that latter half.

Could a Ron Paul 3rd party run actually--finally--give some much needed leverage to the legitimacy of 3rd party presidential candidates?

Entertain the hypothetical scenario that Dr. Paul actually decides to run as the Libertarian Party candidate. Such a move could potentially put the Libertarian Party on the map and give it unprecedented legitimacy.

Could something like this really happen?

I had been hoping for a 3rd party run all this time, but I also assumed that he would perform much, much better in the primaries. I don't know how anyone can see a brokered convention emerging from this. McCain is nearly a lock at this point. Plus, as other posters mentioned, they will throw Bloomberg and Nadar into the race to divert attention from RP. Unlike Ross Perot, Ron Paul will receive no press and will be excluded from the debates. Perot's candidacy was encouraged by the powers behind the government who wanted to guarantee a Clinton victory.

As much as I hate both parties and see the only long-term solution in their mutual destruction and the emergence of alternative parties, I don't see this happening in America because of the depth and severity of the brain-fog that has settled over the people. I'm thinking the best solution would be to start his 2012 candidacy right now, building on the new infrastructure of having one or more precinct captains in all 280,000 precincts. This was a brilliant idea that came too late. Also, we'd want to work all four years to rid our nation of all electronic voting and vote counting devices.

Why this might work is that in the four years of Clinton-Obama we will see more wars, more economic suffering, more illegal immigration, a further erosion of civil liberties, etc. Now, all the misery is being blamed on the Republican Party. With the short-term memory challenges of Americans, in four years it will all be blamed on the Democrats, and there will be a movement for "change". RP would had the underlying infrastructure already in place. We could take it to a whole new level by then.

Ron Paul should at least endorse a Libertarian Party candidate, since he's obviously not endorsing McCain / Romney / Huckabee / Clinton / Obama. I don't see what delegate tricks can still be pulled at this point, but they'll not sway public opinion in our favor!

How old will he be in 2012??
