I found this Barry Goldwater quote and Judge Napolitano's site on face book

I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in "A," "B," "C" and "D." Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me?
And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of "conservatism."

I'd be a happy camper if the Constitution Party became the new home of the Moral Majority voter, that's for sure.

"Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them." While I don't like the "Compromise" part, this is my favorite Goldwater quote other than "extremism in defense of liberty". He knew the religious right was going to be a problem and goddamn they are... Just look at all the Santorum voters for example...

"When you say "radical right" today, I think of these moneymaking ventures by fellows like Pat Robertson and others who are trying to take the Republican Party away from the Republican Party, and make a religious organization out of it. If that ever happens, kiss politics goodbye."

I have nothing against the Christian Ron Paul supporters or Christians here on this forum, but the social conservatives of the Republican party just bother the hell out of me (yes omg collectivist thinking, just let me make a generalization assessment...). They are not reasonable for they base their views on their religion which makes the totally incapable of having a true discussion on issues (Not that those that do aren't, i.e. Christian Ron Paul supporters, but I don't feel these types are actual real Christians (the social con voting block). How can a real Christian boo Ron Paul for stating the Golden Rule in foreign policy? These are the types I'm talking about here so don't go into a hissy fit if you are a Christian.). At least "establishment" republicans (that aren't in the leadership) are open for discussion for they just simply want R's instead of D's. I'm absolutely no fan of the Romney and Huntsman types, but hell, at least I can have a discussion with them without them calling me some kind of sinner or something. I can even, hell, tolerate communists if they are civil, I have yet to find a civil social conservative in my years within the Republican party (and they call us Paul supporters uncivil).

I suppose this is why Ron Paul is more cordial with Romney than others for Romney is actually a tolerable person to have a civil discussion with (even if he disagrees with him). At least he is a normal civil human being. Many view Romney as robotic, but I view him more as just a civil person I disagree with (even with all his flip flopping and etc..) Same way with Obama. They are at least people I could have a conversation with without screaming/ranting/accusations from both sides. Don't get me wrong, I abhor their policies. But I just don't hate them as human beings like I do with people like Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann, etc....

I'm also from northeast PA, so I encounter more of the Romney type people than the social conservatives. I have no idea how to interact with these people (SoCons). I wanted to move to Texas at one point, but Virginia is far south enough for me from my interactions with SoCon people. I'm going back to PA, or joining the Free State Project, or maybe moving to Maine or Washington (Just me personally). Hell Vermont is basically lacking any laws regarding concealed carry. Maybe I'll move there.

I wouldn't. The Constitution Party has in the past been better than both the Libertarian Party and the Republican Party. Its why last election Dr. Paul gave his seal of approval to them. I was disappointed to see them chose a neo-con this year.

Exactly this. true religion leads to a greater respect for the liberty of your fellow man. If you're violating idea then you're violating one of the essential inalienable rights given to men by God.

Thank you. I get tired of getting attacked by Christians because I wish them to hold their principles if they believe them. I also think Jesus was an anarchist, so maybe that is my qualm against the religious right for they may feel he is some kind of social conservative fascist.

A name that could perk a little kids ear like that E.F. Hutton commercial.???

I am so glad my dad liked Goldwater and that I got to hear him speak when I first became politically aware. My dad voted for JFK. When he was murdered was when I became aware of politics. Goldwater and JFK were good friends and loved debating and looked forward to running against one another for POTUS.

he was also pro-choice.

something I do not approve of.

If you are against it then please for gosh sakes don't do it but, you are seriously delusional if you think anyone can stop a woman from having an abortion if they are determined to have one. I am not for them either BTW but I do not think I have the power to control anyone's personal decisions.
