ayn rand -- i think my head is about to explode

oh, this is not to say that her stories are not great, or that the this kind of valuation of her character is useful for you. Her beliefs may not have bothered me had it not been for the hateful cult they spawned

Well you just have stumbled upon the wrong group of objectivist. Just like there are extreme Ron Paul supporters, or extreme muslims, there are extreme objectivist. If you would like a link to a forum of moderate objectivist, pm me and I will give it to you.

Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

Please...Nobody tell me Edgar Rice Burroughs, Robert E. Howard or Alan Burt Akers were communists...PLEASE!!!

well if you were ayn rand, your utter contempt for such weakness would motivate you to kill such a worthless creature

*puke*

Ayn Rand never advocating killing, if you read the article on wiki that I posted you will see that her philosophy of nonviolence was adopted by the Libertarian Policy and is what has fueled Ron Paul's non interventionist policy.

sure, her philosophy may have never formally endorsed killing unless in self-defense, but i find her contemptuous attitude toward others absolutely repugnant. She seems to wish death upon those wishing death upon themselves

No she just recognizes that if you wish death upon your self that is what you are going to get.

Was Ayn Rand trying to make individualism a science? I don't know, sounds like it. I'm not an objectivist because I think of it so far as meaningless indulgence and it just doesn't make much sense to me right now. I will read more into it.

"Objectivism holds that there is mind-independent reality; that individual persons are in contact with this reality through sensory perception; that human beings gain objective knowledge from perception by measurement and form valid concepts by measurement omission; that the proper moral purpose of one's life is the pursuit of one's own happiness or "rational self-interest"; that the only social system consistent with this morality is full respect for individual rights, embodied in pure, consensual laissez-faire capitalism; and that the role of art in human life is to transform abstract knowledge, by selective reproduction of reality, into a physical form—a work of art—that one can comprehend and respond to with the whole of one's consciousness."

What is this drivel? She's for free markets, okay, fine, why go on and on about it? Free market economics. Objectivism is strange. She does a fine job at projecting free market economics as uncaring and downright cruel. I don't think she understands the way she writes of free markets...scares people away. It doesn't really teach them anything. She just doesn't make it sound appealing to anyone but elitists, you can't win over people when you're alienating them with insults and the cold shoulder. I think free markets are the most compassionate of all economic systems, why do I have to project it in a cold and uncaring manner? People don't like that and I don't believe laissez-faire capitalism is cold and uncaring..it is freedom. I'd describe it as more of the absence of a system than as a system in itself though.

You hit the nail on the head.

You asked me if I ever read anything of hers and then you instruct me to "Read Atlas Shrugged and then get back to me" interesting.

Have you read anything L. Ron Hubbard has written? Read Dianetics and then get back to me. LOL

I have been drinking, sorry.

Question: Have you read any of her books?
