Has anyone noticed the mass influx of anti-bullying crap everywhere? I was bullied, i did some bullying, i came out fine (so i think). The way this is so heavily mainstream now makes me wonder is there some Dept of Education No Child Left Behind type mandate going around that the general public doesnt know about. I get this strange vibe because i work in medicine and theres ALWAYS some new thing lurking that the hospital HAS to do or some of our federal funding gets cut. Ive seen anti bullying stuff on billboards, tv, everywhere! Any teachers / school administrators around with any knowledge of this?

Humans will be humans, i would not be able to cope with alot of situations post school without those experiences in school, the war against bullying is akin to drugs, it will always exist so long as we are human.

Yeah and now that ive been out of school 12+ years, i love to add old bullyers as facebook friends and see what losers they are now :-p

I actually am going home next month and plan on asking a few teacher friends about this.

In the latter part of third grade, I was bullied by a kid who had already been held back a few years. His routine was to beat everyone up and steal their lunch money. He did it to everyone for the entire year and eventually it was my turn so he took my lunch money and that evening I told my parents what happened. My dad advised me to defend myself instead of him running to the principle. The next when he tried to take my money in the playground, I picked up the biggest rock I could find and flung it straight into his forehead. I can still remember the shocked look on his face and he never bothered anyone after that incident. I also learned an important lesson that day that it is okay to defend yourself no matter how dire the odds.

I punched bullies in grade school in self defense..it solved problems.I learned to defend myself..something the government doesn't want you to do.

If you did that today they would charge you with assault and and the bully's family would sue you.

Builds trust in the young ones.

As long as government schools exist, there will be bullying. Forcing kids to associate and constantly be in the presence of those they do not wish not to associate with or be with causes this… it's basically what happens in prison.

I've noticed a lot of the anti-bullying stuff, but it mostly seems to be aimed at gay kids. If you are wearing dirty clothes 'cause you're poor, you're a little overweight, and you suck at sports, too bad; we have an agenda to protect...

As far as normal bullying goes, it builds character. If everyone is treated like a little emperor while they're children, they are going to meltdown after 5 minutes in college/real world.

Don't steal lunch money. It's wrong.

But when you grow up, give me half your income. OR ELSE.

Exactly! Government is the biggest bully there is. If you don't give it your lunch money, you'll get stuffed and locked inside of a locker. If you resist you'll get pummelled.

Bullying while unfortunate is a part of the unconscious nature of human beings. If we really wanted a truly conscious campaign to stop bullying it should start at the national level starting with the US throwing it's might around with threats of war and trade restrictions.

so has anyone heard of schools being MANDATED to create anti bullying initiatives at all?

Some states have past anti-bullying laws. I have a real problem with a lot of those especially the ones that include cyber bullying. They are wanting school officials and government agencies monitoring social networking sites for kids who badmouth each other. I think school authority should basically end at school. Second they are trampling on free speech with these laws. A person should be able to say anything they want about someone as long as its true or an opinion. We already have laws to deal with assault, slander or libel.

Our government-centric culture is ALL ABOUT bullying. Parents bully the kids. Schools bully the kids. So the kids simply follow the role model and bully the other kids. When they grow up they become professional bullies (government) or they become victims of government bullying. Then they bully THEIR kids. And the wheel goes round and round.

Bullying in school is NOT natural. It is a product of a bullying school system. Read Summerhill if you want your eyes opened.

I might even agree with the rest of your post, but this kind of reasoning here is awful. There is a good chance that you would have turned out even better if you were never bullied. You probably would have turned out better if the various conditions that lead you to bully were never experienced.

This is good too: School is Prison

I left school because of bullying interfering with me learning. I used the public library after that to continue the subjects that interested me. Boot camp put 50 pounds of muscle on me in four months. When I went back to my hometown my biggest nemesis was not so big anymore and his gut was fat. I have a special place on the toe of my cowboy boots for bullies of any stripe.
