I have the cell phone and contact information of all the official players in Iowa - but I am sure not going to call them and raise HELL - that will accomplish nothing - you can't force a closed organization to be something than more what it is...

Is it too much to ask to wait until we find out what actually happened before accusing the campaign (yet again) of incompetence?

You definitely need a centralized database for this type of work. Otherwise it's too hard to keep the data in sync and keep track of who's been called, address changes, etc.

You also have to make sure you have multiple backups stored in different locations. In fact, someone needs to be responsible for making sure that all there are regular backups made of all data.

IMO keeping bunches of separate databases on multiple PCs is a recipe for disaster.

Could someone from the campaign please let us know exactly what happened? We don't need to spend the rest of today dealing with rumors and accusations
 
If they had all the data on one computer, that is foolish! They should have the data as one file, but they should have sent it to every other office Ron Paul had. Less likely of screw up... unless the file itself was corrupted. They should defintely have various copies of the file itself so that if the final one is corrupted, there are still those they could have gone back to (even though they would have lost a little data). Either way, seems like incomptence to me. We can't afford to have any other mistakes like these.
 
As people have said before, decentralization makes something like that tragedy impossible.

Now people are saying we should be better organized? What happened didn't happen to the decentralized grassroots portion of the campaign, it happened to an area where people relied on a centralized organized core that is easily destroyed by infiltrators.

"Organizing" us requires leadership which really equals easy sabotage on a massive scale.

A bottom up campaign is not powerful enough (intimidation-wise) to prevent sabotage. It is not made up of trusted insider allies, we all very recently came to know one another.

If you try to "organize" this whole thing between a bunch of people you haven't known-for-years you are only trying to make things exponentially worse.
 
ARG! These are the things that people get frustrated with the Campaign about. Why oh why would there be no back-up? No paper fall back? It's hard to say what impact it had on the eventual outcome but with the race for 3rd relatively close ...
 
People learn from their mistakes. Hopefully the campaign will too. The point is, now let's focus on NH! We know what went wrong in Iowa.

And get some computer savvy people! My goodness. They teach this shit at most Universities now. If you can run MS Office then don't mess with the computer.

Computing technologies are used for productivity. Sheesh! Be productive! ;)

Let's move on people. There is nothing we can do about Iowa. New Hampshire needs our focus now.
 
there was some shenannigans going on in NH with late night calling and nothing was done, no investigation , no solution. Do these things happen, and people just go "oh well!"

In my opinion, the ONLY people that should be called on caucus day are people that have already committed to Dr Ron Paul, otherwise, you are reminding people to vote who may vote for someone else. The day of the caucus is not the time to make random calls hoping to convert people...
 
We didn't get out the vote. We had the support to get 3rd but didn't get the vote out.

If THIS is the reason... I hate whoever's fault this is and that person deserves to be punished to the fullest extent that can be managed. I'm not sure what can be learned by this as this appears to be the campaign's fault and not the grassroots.

I mean, the campaign doesn't learn. They will still try to manage everything and it's pretty obvious they are incapable of doing so effectively. It's just like big government really. The damn officials never do anything right.

Truly we have seen the enemy and it isn't the MSN. It's the Ron Paul campaign. It makes sense. They get paid either way so why would they care about how good a job they are doing and no matter how much we complain, nothing changes. They will screw us over again and again in the future. Sure, everyone forget about Iowa and instead lets think about how the campaign will fail us in Wyoming and then NH. This thread makes me madder then anything I have read so far.
 
well - to look on the bright side... we still managed to bring out 10% of the vote. if they anticipated 17,000 people it looks like we got 11,600 without the additional effort, which if my math is correct is around a 68% turnout...which completely blows the competition out of the water!

whatever happenned to the database - it is easily corrected and 100% preventable in future states, whatever the cause.

I think our getting knowcked down a notch is the greatest thing that could have happened to us - now is not the time to get cocky and arrogant. we need to keep our game face on, and the eyes on the prize. lets not dwell on things we cant change - and attack full force the things we can.

i've dealt with meaghan before and i know her to be very passionate, and very competent, and very very upbeat. she will be a great resource as we move forward. i have full faith in her, and the other people in the campaign - to locate the problem and remedy it ASAP ;)
