Actually from what I can tell from the article, the documentary isn't "anti trans" at all. It's stories of people who changed their minds (detransitioners) and realized they had messed their bodies up. I mean I guess that's "anti trans" in the same way that a documentary about traumatic brain injury in sports could be called "anti football" but it's more of a warning of the risks of going that route than it is an attack on everybody who has transitioned and is seemingly happy.

Next week, AMC is hosting nationwide screenings of an anti-trans healthcare propaganda movie, and activists are pushing back.
As the title makes obvious, No Way Back: The Reality of Gender-Affirming Care is yet another documentary attempting to expose the supposed “harms” of medical transition. The movie interviews six self-described detransitioners, and cites a number of “experts” who have repeatedly spoken out against transition-related care, including Sasha Ayad, William Malone, Stephanie Winn, and many others, according to the film’s official website.
Although a press release for the movie claims that it takes “a non-religious, non-political, and non-ideological look” at gender-affirming care, the website features an endorsement from Megyn Kelly front and center, which speaks volumes in and of itself.
Information about the people behind No Way Back is sparse. Panacol Productions and Deplorable Films are cited as the production companies behind the movie — but they appear to have been created for this movie. The latter is described as “a new label for the distribution of films that the illiberal ideologues in Hollywoke — and their comrades in DC — are afraid you might see” on its website. Attempting to search for Panacol Productions simply leads to an older version of the film’s website.
L.E. Dawes is cited as the director of the movie; that name, however, is a pseudonym, per a Dallas Morning News op-ed Dawes wrote earlier this year. Dawes says in the op-ed that she is a female director who has been making films for ten years, even selling a movie to Netflix. Her bio describes her as the “mother of a trans-identified child,” which is phrasing often used by parents who do not want to concede that their children are indeed transgender.
“I chose to begin a new film, one that I was driven to make despite my community’s disapproval,” Dawes writes. She goes on to explain that her child came out as trans during the COVID-19 lockdown, and that she became convinced that “rapid onset gender dysphoria” (which has been extensively debunked) is a real problem because of this.
Although the movie has been available for viewing on Vimeo for some time, AMC will host one day-only screenings of No Way Back next Wednesday in cities across the country, per a Twitter thread shared by the movie.
Upon seeing the thread, Cielo Sunsarae, the executive director and founder of the ***** Trans Project, felt called to action. A page on the ***** Trans Project’s website includes a template for emails to send to AMC’s executive leadership, expressing disappointment with the decision to screen No Way Back and demanding that AMC cancel the screenings. The website also notes that one of the movie’s interviewees, Michael Biggs, testified in favor of Florida’s Senate Bill 254, which has banned care for trans minors and severely restricted access to care for trans adults. A federal judge has partially blocked enforcement of the measure, but the restrictions on care for adults are still in place.
“I am deeply troubled by AMC Theatres’ decision to screen this anti-trans film that further perpetuates the ostracization and demonization endured by my transgender community — especially during Pride Month,” Sunsarae said in a statement to Them. “This act not only perpetuates harmful stereotypes and misconceptions about the transgender community but also undermines the principles of inclusivity and acceptance that Pride Month represents.
Trans Prom Proved: Trans Youth Joy Is Unstoppable
On May 22, over 50 trans and nonbinary youth from at least 18 states gathered in front the U.S. Capitol to throw a party and issue a manifesto.
“We strongly condemn this decision and implore all concerned individuals to call on AMC Theaters to express their disappointment and demand that they immediately remove this harmful film from their screening choice,” Sunsarae added. “We can send a strong message that hate speech and discrimination have no place in this country."
Alexis G. Williams, the director of development at the ***** Trans Project, additionally noted that AMC’s decision to screen the film was “particularly distressing” considering that one of members of the company’s board of directors, Keri Putnam, co-founded ReFRAME, an organization advocating for gender equity in media.
“This makes the screening of this film even more baffling and contradictory to the values upheld by individuals within the industry who strive for equality and fair representation,” Williams said in a statement.
Them has contacted AMC Theatres for comment and will update once a response is received.
