I was there...
I LOVED the energy! I loved the ppl I ran into!
A number of things went wrong...
OK, first of off, the campaign rented a venue rated at 1,000 ppl occupancy. 2,500 ppl showed up. when I came in, they had let in 1,500 ppl. when the fire marshal locked the doors. They eventually let in 2,000 ppl. 500 ppl. were disappointed. The line to get in was between an eighth and a quarter of a mile.
They made a couple of announcements that anyone that had done business with the store table via a CC needed to go back and give them the last 3 digits. Presumably the security code. I literally did a face palm! Talk about poor training!
The event was supposed to start at 6:30pm, but didn't start till 8:30pm. Lasted an hour, and the kick out time was supposed to be 9:30pm. If I had known that, I probably would not have come. Totally messed up my schedule. This is apparently common w/ Paul event, according to a reporter I talked to. Common campaign, be honest with your supporters!
There was no area for Paul autographs or books for sale, as far as I can tell. Even the staff working the event didn't know where Paul would be available, but suggested in the main hall as nothing was set up in the entrance area. Was there any plan for this? The kid of the family I met didn't want to leave before meeting Paul. Wearing a Youth for Paul T... Home schooled... It seemed like there was a gathering to the right of the stage post speech - but I don't know if there was any joy - they headed over that way and I left.
I saw plenty of cars leaving and honking at ppl leaving waving Paul signs - almost all lacking Paul bumper stickers. Common campaign! - they are totally cheap! - you should be handing them out like candy on Halloween! talk about cheap advertizing! - opportunity lost!
I was kinda bored. Paul used his usual talking points. Almost nothing new. He really didn't talk about what ppl care about - jobs and the economy. He didn't address that he does not want to take SS from seniors. He did not address that the drug war is racist - that most prisoners are black, and that this is all corporate profit oriented. That we have the highest prison population in the world. He did not address that the economy and employment rate would skyrocket if we got rid of regulations. He did not address that if we got rid of expensive care, our medical programs would become affordable. I am disappointed!!!! And we wonder why we are only getting 8-12% "wins".... ???? WTF???
There were few blacks in the audience - they do not understand the problems of entitlement programs and the drug war...We got a awesome cross section of every other ethnic group tonight as well as the youth vote.
Females were again a minority - this has a lot to do with with kissing evangelical tail because they are heavy in early states. I have seen this twice, in both campaigns. In both cases we got heavy dem/independent support, until Paul started talking about his personal beliefs re abortion rather than transferring that to the states at which point that support started dropping like flies in the more liberal parts of the country.
Please campaign WAKE THE F UP!
