I was there...

I LOVED the energy! I loved the ppl I ran into!

A number of things went wrong...

OK, first of off, the campaign rented a venue rated at 1,000 ppl occupancy. 2,500 ppl showed up. when I came in, they had let in 1,500 ppl. when the fire marshal locked the doors. They eventually let in 2,000 ppl. 500 ppl. were disappointed. The line to get in was between an eighth and a quarter of a mile.

They made a couple of announcements that anyone that had done business with the store table via a CC needed to go back and give them the last 3 digits. Presumably the security code. I literally did a face palm! Talk about poor training!

The event was supposed to start at 6:30pm, but didn't start till 8:30pm. Lasted an hour, and the kick out time was supposed to be 9:30pm. If I had known that, I probably would not have come. Totally messed up my schedule. This is apparently common w/ Paul event, according to a reporter I talked to. Common campaign, be honest with your supporters!

There was no area for Paul autographs or books for sale, as far as I can tell. Even the staff working the event didn't know where Paul would be available, but suggested in the main hall as nothing was set up in the entrance area. Was there any plan for this? The kid of the family I met didn't want to leave before meeting Paul. Wearing a Youth for Paul T... Home schooled... It seemed like there was a gathering to the right of the stage post speech - but I don't know if there was any joy - they headed over that way and I left.

I saw plenty of cars leaving and honking at ppl leaving waving Paul signs - almost all lacking Paul bumper stickers. Common campaign! - they are totally cheap! - you should be handing them out like candy on Halloween! talk about cheap advertizing! - opportunity lost!

I was kinda bored. Paul used his usual talking points. Almost nothing new. He really didn't talk about what ppl care about - jobs and the economy. He didn't address that he does not want to take SS from seniors. He did not address that the drug war is racist - that most prisoners are black, and that this is all corporate profit oriented. That we have the highest prison population in the world. He did not address that the economy and employment rate would skyrocket if we got rid of regulations. He did not address that if we got rid of expensive care, our medical programs would become affordable. I am disappointed!!!! And we wonder why we are only getting 8-12% "wins".... ???? WTF???

There were few blacks in the audience - they do not understand the problems of entitlement programs and the drug war...We got a awesome cross section of every other ethnic group tonight as well as the youth vote.

Females were again a minority - this has a lot to do with with kissing evangelical tail because they are heavy in early states. I have seen this twice, in both campaigns. In both cases we got heavy dem/independent support, until Paul started talking about his personal beliefs re abortion rather than transferring that to the states at which point that support started dropping like flies in the more liberal parts of the country. :(

Please campaign WAKE THE F UP!

The campaign's rallies and town hall events have pretty much been on time. They were waiting for election broadcasts, and that usually only happens on election days.

Yeah, Bachmann was always late, Paul always on time.

I agree with the bumper stickers, occupancy and store issues but the rest are just peeves.

The campaign DOES have to get on it, I wish I could work on the campaign as an event coordinator.

Biggest problem for me was parking. I got there relatively late due to that but slipped in a side door where one of the employees had stepped out for a smoke ;)

The speech was better on YouTube, the acoustics in the place were not all that great. I was more there for the people, really, to show support for the movement, and to remind myself that America is not yet dead.

You lucky fucking ducks I want to attend a Paul event so badly. Screw useless Connecticut. =[

Poor you, having to suffer through a less than stellar Ron Paul event.

When he came to Florida it was fantastic.

Yea. People are reporting this stuff all the time. No free bumper stickers,no one is selling signs, no one is selling other stuff, no one is informing people when and how to vote and register to vote etc.

I wrote about these and similar problems and weak or nonexistent communication between official campaign and grassroots. Plenty people would have offered to volunteer to sell signs, give free bumper stickers, sign new voters spread information about donating etc.

I am a little bit like Monk (show about perfectionist detective). Sorry to say but this is annoying, sad, and stuff that I shouldnt write here. I am a bit cautious in criticizing but it is with best intentions.

The campaign is not being ran to win IMO. I have this bad hunch there is something else going on. It's about spreading the message than about becoming the nominee. Then what?

Here's my problem - 500 turned away and two current members of the Forum in attendance. That could have been 2 undecideds.. not to pick on you guys, but it's symptomatic of existing fans who already have his vote going to hear him speak, instead of undecided folks.

Did you who attended bring undecided or negative people with you?

I would have been turned away myself, I snuck in after the front doors got locked up by the fire marshal.

These rallies are for the faithful, not the undecided, anyway.

I brought my daughter, she wanted to see Ron. Kids like her are the future of all this. These things aren't for undecideds. I seriously didn't see anyone that looked undecided. Something like a town hall would be for undecideds.

Then maybe my problem is with the campaign - either way - I think it displays a problem getting new votes.
I am happy you brought your daughter though - I completely agree with educating Liberty for the future!

Maybe the strategy is something of a "pay it forward"..
He could book a 10,000 person venue for undecideds, or a 3,000 venue for his base support.
Excite the base so all 3,000 go home and tell 10 people about what they heard.
Now there's 30,000 potential new votes, instead of the original 10,000.

:confused::confused::confused:

Is that what it is?

Eh, they wanted a big worked up crowd for the TV cameras on an election night. To be honest they are probably switching into educational mode, seems like Ron is doing all this for the country and the future generations. Maybe one of the Pauls will get a VP nomination.

Some guy in the crowd had a sign that said "you inspired me to run for congress". That's more of what it's about now I think.

I want Ron to win as much as anyone else, but it's an extremely long shot, we all know this.

They had a table selling swag -- anyone who wanted a sign or bumper sticker could buy one. Giving a bumper sticker to someone means it goes on the refrigerator.

My only peeve is they let people in without getting them to fill out a delegate filing form.
