ABC plans to ignore RP on Feb 5th (proof enclosed)

Todd, did you get that quote recorded on audio?

Regardless, may I borrow it for my book on this campaign, citing you as the source?

Thanks.
Janet

Janet, sadly I did not record the audio, but I do take copious notes and you are welcome to cite this exchange and/or me as a source in your book.

If anyone has any insight into FCC complaints or any advice as to whether that effort has any merit, please advise... there needs to be some pain somewhere, even if it means costing them some attorneys fees to defend themselves.

I am up for the fight.
Or let us start our own radio station, pick one FCC -- you can't have it both ways.

I contacted Steve Jones' office after this phone exchange and spoke to his secretary again (he of course was unavailable) and asked her who Steve Jones' boss was and she said she could not share that information with me... (i had yet to comb this forum where of course it is located!)... but for a company to overtly seek to hide the identity of its own leadership making decisions and put front liners like a secretary and Peter Salinger out in front to take the heat shows just how fearful the MSM is of the truth....

I'm hopeful there is enough scrutiny brought to bear across the country this year to hold some folks accountable.

It looks like they already picked the winners too. Hillary and McCain are in Blue while the others are in Red. Dr. Paul still isn't there.

Thank you.

Hi Todd,

Just to clarify: it's a direct quote, right? Word for word, as shown in your notes? If so, that's all I need to know.

Thanks for letting me borrow it.

I don't know anything about FCC action, but one would think you could file an official complaint and keep pressing the issue.

Good luck!
Janet

So. How many people here still think we live in a free and democratic society?

Word for Word

Janet, yes word for word.... minor clarification below and further details:
3:40pm CST Monday Jan 4, 2008

I asked Peter Salinger what constituted the criteria for inclusion/exclusion of assigning reporters to presidential candidates... "I don't have time to discuss this. I have to go."

I pressed and asked him not to hang up, that I have been very patient and he has refused to answer a legitimate question. "Did your criteria involve number of delegates? total votes? campaign cash? What criteria did ABC use?"

"I do not have to answer that," he said, "I don't have time for this. There are three other people sitting here in my office. I have to hang up."

I asked him why he even picked up the phone then if he had three people in his office... no answer... I reminded him that ABC were "stewards of the public airwaves and as a journalist you can certainly understand the legitimacy of this request."

"Our news division made this decision," he said.

"Who in your news division made this decision and what criteria did they use?" I repeated the delegates, votes, cash as examples. "This is a legitimate question."

That is when he finished by saying:
"I am not going to tell you how our decision was made. This is a decision that was made as a news organization and we do not have to explain this decision to any outside parties. Goodbye."

I think I was on speaker phone by the end and did hear a woman laughing right before it hung up...

I guess it is kinda funny to think that someone at ABC would have a shred of professionalism and integrity... even funnier that we expect anything close to a discussion from someone in management.

(Dumb aside: Maybe it's as simple as which campaign will pay for the bus and treats for the reporters? Would be worth finding out if Ron Paul's campaign offers any traveling accommodations for the press corp similar to ABC.)

Still scratching my head that the news room cannot even name their senior editor when asked....

Just happened to watch the ABC news show on following all the presidential candidates and their "coverage" of pre-Super Tuesday. Not one single mention of Paul. They did mention that there were still 4 Republicans in the race, but didn't mention Paul by name at all of course and made mention of Romney and Huckabee trying to snag some votes from McCain, but still - not one damned mention of Paul.

As well, the commercial in between showed Good Morning America and their non-coverage of tomorrow as well. They too will be doing non-coverage and of course will make no mention of Paul.

Being that I myself just found this thread after seeing the ABC "news" job and all, is it still worth while to email them telling them what a bunch of schmucks they are?

When Rudy was on the page, it went blue red blue red blue red. Now that Rudy is out, they didn't bother chaning the colors, making it blue red blue red red.

Email sent.

Please contact Peter Salinger at 212-456-5105
or e-mail at [email protected] for any additional information regarding our coverage.

I called and the prick who answered said he wasn't Peter, so I informed him about Dr Paul running for President. He was a dick and hung up.

Maybe I'll call back in a few.

Thanks.

Todd, great work. You ALMOST make me miss my newspaper reporting days.
(But not quite!)

:)

Wow, this is insane. How interesting Janet- you are compiling a book on this already. If Dr. Paul did not win (sigh), I have to say that this could be a hot best seller, documentary, and really could help to have an impact and possibly destroy the MSM as we know it. (or maybe thats just my wishful thinking). I also think we should be pressing charges, suing the Media co's and canceling our cable subscriptions. I know i will.

I have to agree...

Are you kidding? The people in this country don't care about anything more than football, Britney, and Paris Hilton.

There's a lot of truth to that. On the flip side, I believe they would care more about other things if the media presented NEWS accurately (instead of saturating Americans' minds with the tripe you cite above).

But I've no dreams of penning a best seller. If it sells 5,000 copies, I'll be thrilled. The point is to document the movement, the motivation, and the opposition... which is almost entirely the media (rather than the other candidates).

I just want somebody, a year from now, to be able to read about what really happened (instead of the vague references they may find in the misleading media).

I Spoke To Peter Salinger!!!!!!!!

LOL

I called the abc desk you provided, (thanks) and made up a fake name- Jim Allen and told the receptionist that I worked for the SF Chronicle..... I SPOKE TO PETER SALINGER!!!! I asked if they would be covering him today and he said they might mention him but that no reporter was assigned to him!!!! I told him that we would be reporting it and he paused for a moment and finally said that OK...... I said thank you and hung up..... WE NEED TO CALL THESE BASTARDS AND PRETEND WE WORK for the MSM and ask if they have a reporter assigned to Paul... Do not reveal who you are, JUST ASK: "Do you have a reporter assigned to Paul?" and LET THEM KNOW: "Is it OK if I report this..." THIS WILL SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF THEM!!!!!
