A brochure on government spending since FDR or even before?

After watching Glenn Becky boy today, and when I went to pick up my wife I had a little chat with a couple of Republican voters. They had stated that there were only two parties in which I had relayed my position, I had asked them what about a candidate who would want to go back to the Constitution which they both jumped at and answered "yes". Then I said Ron Paul, to which I'm sure you know the response I got, but however, that's not the purpose of this...

Anyway, while trying to explain to them that both Reps and Dems are basically no different, they couldn't grasp it, at least with only hearsay. So I was wondering if anyone has ever thought about making a brochure or pamplet that can be sent out showing the government spending and the party offiliation of each President, or if there was already one out there?

I'm not artistic enough to do this, but if there is already one, or someone would like to do it, let me know...Thanks...

When looking at spending, you have to bear in mind that while a President can propose a budget, it is Congress which actually writes the spending bills and what goes into it while the President can only sign or veto it so you should also consider who was in control of congress. Here is a crude graph by president: http://www.cato.org/research/fiscal_policy/bush/fig3.html

If you want to look at debt (both parties like to spend but the Republicans are more likely to cut taxes along with increasing spending which adds to the debt) Clinton had the most success with trying to get the budget under control:

Then I'd need to know which party had control at which moment in time as well. One thing I didn't think of, but still, "a" party was in control of congress, so the depth of what I am looking for will need to encompass congress as well...

I found this site http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/year1945_0.html#usgs302 and using it and the image you posted I created a basic spreadsheet layout...Quite interesting that between 95 - 2005 the congress was run by republicans and the deficit dropped a lot then increased a lot. That is if these figures are correct.

Though, looking at the deficits of the previous years, and how they were increasing at pretty much a steady pace, that if it continued it would be probably at the amount it was in 2003. It's almost like it was never as low as it was in 2001. Wierd as hell.
