71% of Americans Support Increasing the Minimum Wage

Supply and demand. When demand for labor outstrips the supply, wages increase. That is with a stable currency. Add to that government deficit spending and money printing, and you also cause massive inflation. To prevent that, artificially increase the labor supply through importation of labor. Thus you can print money, deficit spend and never worry about actual wage increases. Of course this collapses in dramatic fashion when the labor pyramid scheme falls apart. When wages are equal in all areas of the world, there will be no more sources of cheap labor (which means a global leveling at 2nd or 3rd world level).

(Yes, it's very real.)

And you have to love the stacked rocks as well.

THAT is how health insurance got coupled with employment, as a perk to entice GOOD HELP.

AFRICA: The final frontier for exploiting the Locals and controlling their resources.

I mean, think about it. People invest GLOBALLY, and they demand RETURNS ON INVESTMENT. Is your investment in company X, producing &/or peddling product &/or service Y, gonna increase in value by selling to restore the latterly enviable quality of life for America's Middle Class, or by selling to increase (if only fractionally) the quality of life for global BILLIONS?

Investors are ALSO invested in War and Poverty.

When the price of labor goes up, the price of the products or services provided also have to increase.

What people fail to see is that an increase in the price of a product or service goes up, the sale of those products will go down. Your Whopper just went from 99 cents to 10 bucks, just for the burger. Do you think that people will buy more Whoppers at 10 bucks per Whopper, or less? If you guessed less, then you also understand that due to the decrease in sales and an increase in cost of labor, the total number of jobs will also go down.

Until sustainable equilibrium is restored. Which free markets are "naturally" inclined to achieve.

In the oh-so-real world of ADDICTION, money is whatcha call a SUBSTANCE OF CHOICE.

What I believe people have LOST SIGHT OF...thanks to Robber Barons, Social Engineers and Madison Avenue...is that Livable Wages for working bill-paying human beings trump returns on passive investment. OTHERWISE, "we" have a corrupt and inefficient Welfare State from the get-go.

SPECTACULAR PROFITABILITY would never sustain with free markets. Competition would enter the field and lower the margin until it "wasn't worth" going into that business...or RACKET, as the case may be.

Yep. Once again, due to government interference in the economy. The government was enforcing wage price controls which were too low.

They never get it right. Increases in immigration were just another in a long string of government attempts to manipulate wages.

When I was working in Australia, the Aussie dollar was worth 58 cents... now, it's worth more than $1.02... all thanks to Washington DC government anf FEDERAL RESERVE.

Yeah , it has been a buck for some time now...

The problem here is that minimum wage increases do not help the people that they are supposed to help. For many years, I was at or near the very bottom of the wage scale. Raising the minimum wage never resulted in any increase in my pay, it only meant that workers who knew less or had fewer skills were now paid what I was (and that I could only get a raise by changing jobs). It also meant, every time, that my rent would increase sometime in the following year. Raising the minimum wage has always taken money out of my pocket. Raising the minimum wage never keeps up with (let alone gets ahead of) the inflation that it causes: employers have to pay more for labor at the low end of the scale, so end up raising prices on their customers. Everyone's cost of living increases, so everyone raises prices on everything across the board. Minimum wage was never really an issue when we were still on the gold standard, a dollar was a dollar.

I disagree with minimum wage laws and there are a litany of studies which show conclusively that they hurt the poor, but I don't know of any that have proven a link between minimum wage and inflation. I'd be shocked if such a link actually existed.

Our money has to come from somewhere, unlike the Govt. The Value of that money has to be based upon something as well. Higher minimum wage means less jobs, which is where that value is coming from. So I agree.

They should have a poll that determines exactly what percent of those Americans are business owners.

I don't know why leftist support a minimum wage. If anything, they should be in favor of a maximum wage of $50 an hour.

As usual, government gets it wrong. They screw up housing with taxes and regulation, driving up the cost. Then they ship our jobs overseas and import cheap labor. Now they tell us we need a higher minimum wage. Idiots. Either deregulate the housing market so prices can adjust for lower wages, decrease the labor pool by deporting and restricting immigration, or put tariffs on imports to protect higher wage factory jobs. Duh!! They missed all 3!!

Amazing, the number supporting this is very similar to those supporting the government drone-killing U.S. citizens.
