2024 Republican National Convention Official Thread

I 100% disagree with "Rand is just a bad campaigner" argument. You don't get re-elected to the U.S. Senate if you can't connect with average voters.
Running for President is a whole different animal than any other office.

Rand lost in 2016 to Trump because the Republican electorate was angry and Trump was the best at playing off that anger. There is nobody better than Trump at anger politics.
2016 was Trump's year, no matter what, but yeah... Rand wouldn't have won anyway because his campaign was a joke. That being said, Rand doesn't have the charisma or gravitas to be President, unfortunately. Although I would vote for him again if he ran (hopefully not).

Of course. But that takes nothing from my point. Winning a statewide race means, by definition, winning over the average voter. Kentucky isn't so red that a republican can't lose statewide. (For example Kentucky has a Democratic governor).

Campaign structural issues are fixable and have nothing to do with the candidate's own ability to connect with voters. It's a matter of hiring the right people and letting them run it. Looking at this years GOP field, Nikki Haley simply got the "we don't want Trump" vote and won't be a factor in 2028. I'm not sure how much traction Desantis will get in 2028 on social "DEI" issues. Vivek won't be a factor because, let's face it, a significant portion of the GOP are like Laura Ingram and into (white) identity politics. I'm pretty sure Rand can hold his own against any of them.

Even if he gets elected, it is only 4 years. He damn sure had better clean house and prosecute those in government unconstitutionally spying on Americans, trampling on the 1st Amendment and Fauci and Birx, et al.

Yeah! And he might as well cure cancer, establish a lasting world peace, eliminate poverty and hunger and establish the first human outpost in Alpha Centauri while he’s at it!

Cute. My point was that I hope that he follows up in resolving at least some of the corruption. To do that though, he is going to need a Congress that wants same. Yeah, I know, it probably won’t happen.

Trump won't be able to do anything. The Democrats are going to severely handcuff him and make it so that he can't make any positive changes. He'll probably have to deal with a Democratic House and Senate and he'll have to resort to using executive orders to get things done. All in all his second term will play out the exact same way that Clevelands did.
