2016 poll: Jeb Bush withers, Rand Paul soars

You're forgetting Walker and Kasich, who attended Adelson's little gathering.

Everyone always forgets about Walker. That's why we should be extremely concerned. If you put all the pieces together, it's pretty obvious that Walker will be the establishment candidate in conservative clothing.

Is Rubio's position on immigration that much different from Rand's?

Umm, yes. From a policy perspective, Rubio is pushing for "comprehensive" reform that includes a new, shorter pathway to citizenship. I think you are familiar with Rand's position.

Rubio put his face on the "comprehensive" bill, so as a matter of perception it's much much worse than if the difference was purely on policy.

Because Christie is DOA and they don't have another establishment standard bearer?

My guess is that we haven't seen the last of Rubio. Bush has no shot. Christie probably has no shot. But Rubio is still a younger, relatively likeable, guy from an important state. He's an unserious candidate and could never outmatch Rand, but I can see the establishment throwing it's weight behind him to stop us.

Rubio and Walker certainly stand a chance. Ryan is probably too much of a stick in the mud to draw much of a following, unless he's really changed his image and style since the last time we saw him on a national stage when he had even less personality than Mittens.

Rubio and Ryan are bush league. There's no way either of them is going to be the GOPe standard-bearer.

Walker is the real competition, and one major reason for that is that he's got broad appeal and a record of making effective changes. He's the only viable national candidate besides Paul, in my opinion.

If Bush gets the nomination then we know the polls are compromised. There is no humanly way possible that another Bush gets the nod. Even dumb people don't want another Bush.

My God people, they have even been using Ted Cruz to tee him up.

Paul Ryan was the VP Nominee. He has been very well behaved. He has been a team player. The GOP system has been grooming him. The GOP is a machine, thats how it survives.

Anyone other than Ryan getting the nomination will be a huge upset.

Its Rand vs Ryan. Anything else is just trying to take your eye off the target.

Lets say Jeb Bush *wanted* the nomination, he is required to campaign like crazy this season, then bow out at the right time and endorse Ryan.

Then he gets consideration for one of the next three cycles.

That is how the GOP works.

Look at it this way, if Ryan doesn't get the nomination and its handed to someone (not talking about a Rand insurgency) then the GOP will fall apart, because everyone else will stop playing by the rules. Everything will become a backstabbing free for all like the Dems.

The Grinch, Santorum, and Rubio?

EDIT: and I forgot about Huckleberry

While Huckabee isn't libertarian, he really isn't establishment either. I'm sure the establishment would prefer him over Rand, but he definitely wouldn't be their first choice.

I think Huckabee will probably be Rand's main competition, in Iowa and everywhere else.

I disagree. He has Iowa and the bible thumpers and that's it. He will fade away after Iowa just like the last time. Huckabee has no appeal outside of social conservatives and the social conservatives are only relevant because of Iowa.

That's what happened to him in 2008 and seems what happened to Santorum in 2012.

I don't know. He could still hurt Rand a lot if he wins Iowa. Iowa seems like a must win state for Rand. And Huckabee's overall favorability ratings are still really good among Republicans.

I don't agree that Iowa is a must win. New Hampshire is a stronghold for us where Cruz and Huckabee are weak, we can and I predict will win it. New Hampshire and Nevada are our must wins, IMO.
