And justify it as "part of the plan." Quantum Dark Energy Wormhole Chess donchaknow?
Well now you got me looking into a past post I remember making pasted below. To be fair what I said of Trump would also apply to FDR and Bush supporters:
Although I don't believe it myself, let's just suppose that 9/11 was an inside job and we found a Condi Note from the Bush Jr. administration that was the equivalent of this:

On November 25 Henry L. Stimson, United States Secretary of War noted in his diary that he had discussed with US President Franklin D. Roosevelt the severe likelihood that Japan was about to launch a surprise attack, and that the question had been "how we should maneuver them [the Japanese] into the position of firing the first shot without allowing too much danger to ourselves.'
Would such a fact turn the red meat Republicans into Bush Bashers? To answer that, let's see how how someone who is certain that FDR had advanced knowledge of Pearl Harbor reacts to FDR's policy (link to interview inside):

For certain, as every year around this time, we will have to put up with a bunch of crap about how “military hobbyists and crusty Roosevelt-haters are propounding far-flung theories about presidential treachery,” while in fact the man who proved the case is no Roosevelt-hater, but the furthest thing from it. His name is Robert Stinnett, he’s a veteran of the pacific war and biographer of his fellow veteran George H.W. Bush. Though he proves beyond doubt the case for Roosevelt’s treachery in his book Day of Deceit: The Truth About FDR and Pearl Harbor, Stinnett remarkably justifies this action as necessary to get us into the war in Europe.
I can almost guarantee that at least 95% of FDR fans would remain FDR fans if it was proven to them that Pearl Harbor was an "inside job", the vast majority of Republicans would justify 9/11 as an inside job was a needed wake up call - that if we didn't have reason to start the War on Terror in 2001, the terrorists would have had time to build up their strength and numbers and obtain WMDs and eventually mushroom clouds would be covering America. But since that didn't happen "Bush kept us safe" by sacrificing the lives of 3000 people. That would be the spin.
Need more convincing that this would be the outcome? Take a look at this:

The former Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin has come third in a nationwide TV vote for the greatest Russian ever to have lived, despite being responsible for the deaths of millions of Soviets.
Medieval prince Alexander Nevsky came top in the poll, and in second place was reformist Prime Minister Pyotr Stolypin, who was assassinated in 1911.
More than 50 million people voted by phone, the internet or via text messages in the poll held by Rossiya, one of Russia's biggest television stations.
