Yeah, that's stupid. People would still be able to buy weapons at higher prices via blackmarket, so what difference does it make?
Actually blackmarket handguns have remained very cheap in Britain after their total handgun ban. So much so that many elementary school kids can afford to buy them and take them to school. Even school teachers there are now asking for bullet proof/knife proof vests just so they go to work and teach:
