YouTube Blacks Out "You Like Ron Paul, Except on Foreign Policy"

Black this out http://www.apelsin.nu/classics/?url=bomb_iraq

Change Iraq to Iran, and woopsy, your in the mind of all the other GOP candidates (except Buddy Roemer:D)

But really, as other people have said, it's quite easy actually to get it uploaded again. You just have to play by the book.

EDIT: And yeah, change GWB to any other GOP candidate (except Buddy Roemer :D)

A couple reasons:
1. People are more likely to click Youtube links than links for other video sites.
2. I understand the dispute resolution process, it is very easy and it will be quite simple to get the video restored and protected against such claims.

Point 1 is silly. The more sites a video is on the better. Re-upload it to YouTube as well. I'm not saying don't be on youtube. I'm saying don't only be on youtube. Lots of folks now are smart enough to search videos through Google which gives you YouTube results as well as results from other websites.

On point two, unless you author, you have no involvement in that.

Or you can change the play book and upload to multiple sites. We can use the free market to our advantage.

My involvement in it is asking if anyone knows who created the video and whether or not they can be summoned to the thread so that I can explain how to file a successful dispute. I support your 'reupload it to other sites project' and good luck with that.

Yeah. It's an Eplosions In The Sky song, I'm pretty sure. They should have used a track they owned and this would have never been a problem.

Edit: The band is This Will Destroy You not Explosions In The Sky.

Every Ron Paul video has a post-rock soundtrack. I have no idea why. It's not like the official commercials have soundtracks. I do like post-rock myself, but I don't understand at all why every single Ron Paul video maker always has to say "let's put something completely unnecessary in there that can get the video taken down."

Moral of the story, don't use copyrighted music in political videos!

That's a losing game. There's also copyrighted video in there. The clip of Ghandi. The clip of Judge Napolitano on Fox. Yeah that all falls under fair use, but so does the way the music was used.

Fair enough.

Can we tap Joe Perry and Kelly Clarkson for a new score?

Or Golden State, or Jordan Page or Aimee Allen or any random person.

Of course, this is a politicial ad, and doesn't need music. Random people plinking out random noises on the guitar could do the trick. I know I personally could.

Any musician that knows their way around a keyboard and the editing programs could score that video pretty quickly. Regular artists with published music still have a lot of hoops to jump through, even if they wanted to make their music available.

The video is more problematic... Can't create that on the fly!

What we need is a grassroots media talent pool. Some of us can write. Some can draw. Some have the "golden voice". And some can plunk away at a guitar. I should be able to say "Hey, I've got a script for a killer anti-Romney video and I need X, Y and Z".

Actually I do have a script for a killer anti-Romney video. "At 19 Mitt Romney showed support for the troops by protesting in favor of the draft and the Vietnam war...and then dodging the draft with the help of his governor father. By contrast Ron Paul supported the troops by actually becoming one. Any questions?"

Cutting a new video is a lot more laborious than simply filing a Fair Use dispute against the DMCA Takedown request. And it can still be hit with a DMCA Takedown for the video.

Absolutely. The person who made the video needs to do that first, if they even know yet that the video has been blocked.

Does anyone know the youtube user who uploaded the video? We need to let him know he can file a fair use dispute...

Hey I'd like to add a comment about this, it can save people grief and I've seen this exact same issue come up on a lot of RP videos.

CUT IT OUT WITH THE STUPID MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR IT AND IT ONLY DROWNS OUT THE THINGS RP SAYS IN THE VIDEOS

thank you had to get that off my chest, big pet peeve of mine that seems to be epidemic with RP videos in particular. What's with the apparently irresistable urge to add music to these things? It's totally unnecessary and just gives opponents a handle to censor them. Just yesterday I found what appears to be the only available video from the 2008 counter-convention... and the audio track was muted out because the idiot who put the video together added a completely unnecessary, and copyrighted, song in the background.

I disagree. I think the music is a powerful part of the video.

There are some good ideas in this thread, but one question hasn't been asked: What do the Magic Bullet people want? If it's a small amount of money, we can come up with that, and it would be worth it given the psychological boost of being able to spread a video with hundreds of thousands of views.

Not for nothing, but shouldn't the thread title be "Paul grassroots video pulled for copyright infringement". I'm not trying to defend anyone here, but YouTube is just doing their job by pulling it, and Magic Bullet is perfectly in the right for asking for it to be pulled. Someone used their intellectual property without permission and/or compensation. Whoever made this video in the first place should have known better.

Does anyone know the youtube user who uploaded the video? We need to let him know he can file a fair use dispute...

Why bother. The issue could be solved in a matter of minutes by removing the music, or using something that the video producer holds the copyright to.
