You're all welcomed to Canada...!

Why I like New Zealand:

-- Very against the Iraq war (even use of an Air NZ jet to just ferry Australian troops to Saudi Arabia caused a huge flap in parliament)
-- Anti-nuclear (they don't allow US warships to dock anywhere in NZ, since the US Navy refuses to certify that don't carry nukes)
-- Simpler tax system (income tax form is like 4 pages long, no death taxes, no capital gains taxes on the sale of your home, extremely low property taxes)
-- A sane legal system that doesn't grant obscene financial awards
-- The country isn't run by lawyers (the contract paperwork to buy a house is like 4 pages long)
-- Of course it's beautiful
-- Only 4M people in a country that's about two-thirds the size of California (only 1M people on the entire south island)
-- English-speaking
-- Low levels of violent crime
-- Gun ownership is legal (although they do have a strict safety-focused licensing system) and there are lots of hunters in the country
-- They understand and appreciate personal liberty, and have been known to demonstrate or riot when the government tries to pass laws that might undermine those rights
-- They have one of the strongest currencies in the world (it's a commodity-oriented currency, like the Australian and Canadian dollars)
-- Their politicians have a reputation of being among the most honest and least corrupt in the world
-- They have run a tax SURPLUS for the last few years
-- No one hates NZ; they're not quite as neutral as Switzerland, but close
-- People here know how to fix things and keep them for a long time; it's not a throw-away consumer society

One way to look at this is to think about what our forefathers did. When the government in England got messed up, they left and found someplace better. When Germany and the rest of Europe went crazy during the World Wars, lots of people left there to come to the US. It's really just the natural flow -- why stay and support a system that's crumbling and that you don't really believe in?

Immigration horror Stories

what kind of horror stories.

The details escape me now. As I recall, it was very easy to work in the larger cities but a lot of red tape accompanied the children. School, health care, etc.

Wow. You should be hired by NZ's tourism bureau. I want to go now! :)

You tried in 1812 and we burned down your white house... :D

Actually, it was British Regulars, fresh from the Napoleonic battles, that burned down the white house.

The American and Canadian militias that fought along our northern border were both completely inept.

If the dollar ever recovers, I intend to visit New Zealand. It has gotten unanimous raves from everyone I know who worked or studied there.

We have a generous immigration policy.... And a 5 party system.. and bring ron paul too!!

Well, you HAD a generous immigration policy until 1978. I became a landed immigrant in 1972. All I had to do was fill out a very simple form at the border. Then in 1977 I left for a year to help my dad, who was dying, and when I tried to go back, the customs people said, you've been gone for more than six months so you must reapply, and you must do it from a major city with a Canadian consulate in the US, and get on the waiting list, and you've got to have a job lined up that no Canadian can fill, and more restrictions I can't remember them all.

Move to a socialist country because the US is moving towards socialism? That doesn't make any sense.

Lol, funny that you should mention New Zealand as an option. I've actually got a working visa on hand for New Zealand so I can escape the insanity here if it comes to that. I filed it before I had heard about Ron Paul, so I now I do have some hope for this country, but if not.... sweet beaches of Auckland here I come!
Lol.

Actually, from my understanding it's very hard to get into Canada without a degree in a desired field that will contribute to their economy. Beautiful country though, and those hot springs in British Columbia are so nice!

I hate threads like this.

We haver problems for sure, but only in America do you see a revolution such as ours.

I have family in Canada - it is a wonderful place to visit, and even to live.

But for you true liberty seeking patriots that I have been fighting beside - you won't be happy in Canada.

The fact is the message Ron Paul gives resonates in this country. I don't think that would be true anywhere else in the world right now.

So as bad as it looks right now, I'm still convinced the best shot at securing true freedom rests with this county and this constitution.

True, we have 5 parties, but just to warn you:

Conservative (current PM) = neocons who would warmonger and take away civil liberties as much as the GOP if NDP didn't hold balance of power
Liberal = hard centre do nothing party
NDP = libertarian on foreign policy and social issues (except guns) but socialist economically
Green = green (need I say more)
BQ = Marxists who want the province of Quebec to separate from the rest of Canada, to appease these assholes we give an unproportionate amount of our social spending on Quebec.

I personally think the NDP are lesser of 5 evils but no one even kind of close to as good as RP.

as much as i would like to do that, i believe that you guys will be part of NAU soon enough, and if im going to run away to another country its going to be an island
