You don't win by quitting... (Ron is still a Republican)

Leaving the Republican Party is just what they want you to do; don't let them win!

Remember, Ron Paul stayed with the GOP after they kept shafting him, and he has become one of the most influential Republicans in history. Don't give in or wimp out, otherwise the establishment wins!

DEFEATISM

We will recover, formulate a plan, build our numbers, wait patiently, and then come back and beat them next time :D

If Ron has a project, I'm sure a lot of people will want to support him, regardless of the name of his party.

I totally agree Matt. This is a long term battle. If people who have joined the party because of Ron Paul quit now, then the establishment will win more battles in the future.

What if Ron had taken that attitude?

He did take that attitude, it's why he left in '88. Its not surprising that people inspired by him are going through the same steps. Its up for the RNC to decide if we stay or go. If they keep on playing games, then we walk, simple as that. They are corrupt, power hungry politicians, not miss informed people that simply need to be shown the way.

the soft rock tunes of the 60s + 70s let alone james brown hint at the age demographic of the romney delegates

the auld GOP is being hit by a generational wave as we boomers look at social security on the verge of bankruptcy

What we need is a massive Mitt Romney loss in November. All we have to do is be the resistance within the party this election. We don't even have to completely take over the narrative. If we can just push Romney/Ryan off message a few times that is all it will take.

We need to bring up RomneyCare, and Ryans TARP support over and over and over and over and over again.

Matt is 100% correct here. They want us to leave. My local GOP expects us to quit right now and stop attending meetings. But we have news for them. We have the PCs, we have the votes, we're going to take the officer positions in November and lots of State Committeemen spots. Others may leave the party but Coconino County Ron Paul supporters are here to make life miserable for the establishment.

They will never let anyone but their guy win ... it's those few guys at top. I remember when Ron Paul came to Burbank, he told our group our US treasury has been looted and the reason there was so much political fighting is because both sides are fighting for the last, tiny piece of the pie - I'm paraphrasing of course. The republicans want to spend that last piece on war.

And then he very quickly came back to the GOP. Why do you think that is?

Because he had not woken up enough of us yet to make waves outside of the party and lacked the means to wake people up like me that paid no mind to politics because he had no way of reaching someone like me. Things have changed since '88. A candidate like Paul in a party like the LP in '88 is not the same as a candidate like Paul in the LP in 2012-2016.

Next time? With Rand? LOLLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Ron Paul "stayed" only because it was beneficial to him. It allowed HIM to get elected in TEXAS. Knowing your market is important.

Well Ron did run as a Libertarian.

He's said/hinted that the reason hes a Republican is because the 2-headed 1-party system has made it incredibly difficult for 3rd Parties to compete.

Im not advocating that people leave the GOP (though I consider myself to be Independent leaning towards Libertarian) but whats the incentive to stay? Work/fight vs. the good ol boys to try and influence from within?

Why?

Loyalty has to be to principles not to Party and the GOP's principles (thats being generous, much like the Dems) have been missing for decades.

Especially after the BS they've been pulling since Iowa...good luck GOP.

He did indeed take that attitude. And the reason he did was simple. He tried one thing, it didn't work very well, so he tried something else.

And has anything changed in that time? Quite a lot, actually. The liberty movement has gained size, strength and momentum. Enough of these things that we could elevate another party to prominence? Don't know until we try. Furthermore, the G.O.P. has gotten more corrupt. Corrupt to the point that they don't care if they disenfranchise all of their delegates--the good little stooges right along with us. Which is weakening the party. Enough that another party could knock it off the way the Republican Party knocked off the Whig Party? We don't know until we try.

I'm not saying that one way is better than the other. Both present serious difficulties. I honestly don't know which method is more promising. But I know this. This herd of cats isn't going to stick with these obnoxious martinets just because Ron Paul spent part of his career with that R next to his name. There had better be better reasons than that, or we're going to abandon that ship and let it sink.

There are better reasons, of course. But I haven't seen them in this thread yet.

One thing is certain. I haven't seen Ron Paul endorse a Republican for president since 1980.

Quitting the GOP will keep us from winning the battle to take over the GOP. But, much as a shock as this may be to some people, the goal of most of us is to fix the nation, not the damned GOP...
