YOU are Responsible For the AmTrak Train Derailment

No. I don't support going twice the speed limit. I also don't support massive welfare to the biggest companies in the nation!

Will the employee who pushed the train far above the recommendable traveling speed be subject to termination or will his job be protected by the CBA? Usually, if you kill multiple persons, you're going to lose your job.

The engineer probably got terminated by the crash, but he will probably be buried at company expense.

One major reason that the status quo is so harmful to the Northeast Corridor is because Congress demands Amtrak operate like a profit-seeking business, while at the same time requiring the agency to continue running little-used and money-losing lines, something no business would do.

I was looking at ticket pricing earlier today - none are available, for obvious reasons, but they ran $89-120 for BWI2philly. It's a 2 hour drive. You can get a commuter flight from BWI2NYC for $100. (3 hour drive) From what I hear, these rail cars are largely empty. I wonder why?

The best thing Congress could do is let them go 100% private so they stopped loosing money.

People want low fares ( at the expense of others).

The Middle East airlines get their governments to vastly subsidize their expansion. Nobody complains. American jobs suffer.

The Satanic Illuminati Pedophiles are too busy killing people creating that very desirable Loosh energy to invest in infrastructure...

Little more info coming out. that section of track has an automated warning system that alerts the engineer if he's going to fast. The train was going 106mph when the engineer slammed on the brakes. 4 seconds later, at a speed of 102mph 200 tons of choochoo plus 7 carriages decided to try flying. Those things don't stop on a dime, ya know! I imagine the wheels not turning any more had a lot to do with it. The sparks must have been spectacular!

Gomez Adams must be jealous.

Eh? - should have gotten my rail atlas instead of relying on vague Internet maps. However, while Amtrak owns that rail, they said they shared it with NJ rail and one other, so there should be freight on that line.

Unless I'm mistaken, I don't know that Anthrax owns any rail line.

Well it if it was driven by a computer instead of a human this could have all been avoided.

Until AI takes over and it becomes Blaine the Mono.

Stephen Hawking warns artificial intelligence could end mankind

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-30290540

Prof Stephen Hawking, one of Britain's pre-eminent scientists, has said that efforts to create thinking machines pose a threat to our very existence.

He told the BBC:"The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race."

His warning came in response to a question about a revamp of the technology he uses to communicate, which involves a basic form of AI.

Prof Hawking says the primitive forms of artificial intelligence developed so far have already proved very useful, but he fears the consequences of creating something that can match or surpass humans.

As long as dogs can distinguish them from real humans,we stand a fighting chance.

They own that line. They own old Pennsylvania electrified lines from Penn Station to Harrisburg (via Philadelphia) and Washington, and a line from Harrisburg to Baltimore. The only other track it owns is the New Haven Shoreline from Hell's Gate to Boston via New Haven and Providence.

This one's entirely on Anthrax.
