WOW. OBAMA just gave a campaign speech against RON PAUL....

loosely put, potus just lit into the GOP by shaming them when he praises eleanor's famous uncle,
and if i had thought his innagural sounded like woodrow wilson, potus now is doing an FDR strut.
given that doctor ron paul is the very heart & soul of the GOP at the current hour, it is his hour.

i think you're reading too much into this. Democrats say stuff like that all the time, he's not referring to Ron Paul.

I'll go through the transcript and see if I can find the parts that made me think so. BRB.

Their philosophy is simple: we are better off when everyone is left to fend for themselves and play by their own rules.

Now, just as there was in Teddy Roosevelt’s time, there’s been a certain crowd in Washington for the last few decades who respond to this economic challenge with the same old tune. “The market will take care of everything,” they tell us. If only we cut more regulations and cut more taxes - especially for the wealthy - our economy will grow stronger. Sure, there will be winners and losers. But if the winners do really well, jobs and prosperity will eventually trickle down to everyone else. And even if prosperity doesn’t trickle down, they argue, that’s the price of liberty.

It’s a simple theory - one that speaks to our rugged individualism and healthy skepticism of too much government. It fits well on a bumper sticker. Here’s the problem: It doesn’t work. It’s never worked. It didn’t work when it was tried in the decade before the Great Depression. It’s not what led to the incredible post-war boom of the 50s and 60s. And it didn’t work when we tried it during the last decade.

i think we're stretching a little here guys... i mean that quote was hardly "against paul". he was pushing liberal talking points, it's just sad that the only person on the republican side that may seem to be "against" is ron paul.

but seriously, we're dillusional if we think obama is "punching up" at a candidate with 8% national polling. we gotta win some primaries and caucuses before we start talking like that.

Ron needs to make a counter statement.

This is a PRIME opportunity to make this race about Paul and Obama.

Yess! Turn the race into Obama vs Paul. Let the media cover the exchanges and they will be forced to say how Ron Paul is the only one that polls high enough to beat Obama.

That quote is so full of BS, it made me feel physically angry. It's a misconception that has gone on in American politics for far too long.

I watched the whole thing. It was definitely a direct hit toward Ron Paul. The funny thing was, he was up there at the podium describing himself to a "T" but yet saying it's what's wrong with America and the stupid people in the crowd were eating it up. I am just amazed at the stupidity in America these days.

Ron needs to study this speech and load up his ammo. Ron will eat him alive in a debate.

Obama is definitely speaking this into the GOP battle right now, telling Republicans that Newt/Romney are the 'sensible' choices, not Paul.

C'mon, GOP, you gonna let some big gov't lib'rul tell you who they want you to vote for?

Ron Paul is obviously the only choice now, if it's worrying the Dem's this much already.

While it may not be directed at him specifically, if Ron makes a point about it in interviews and addresses what Obama, then proves how Obama is wrong, that will make some of the anyone but Obama republicans which we don't have yet, join us. Also, that gives him an opportunity to say something along the lines of "well obviously most people don't agree with Obama because he is losing support, while I am gaining it. In recent polls, I'm shown to be the ONLY one who can beat Obama."

*facepalm*. oh come on, he's not talking about anything specifically libertarian or Paul-ian. This statement could have been just as easily applied to Bush in the 2008 campaign. Tax cuts on the wealthy? Is Ron Paul even talking about that? Everyone knows Republicans are for the free market and Democrats are for for more government intervention in the free market. That's all that's going on here.

Obama and handlers are quite aware that the paleocon-libertarian coalition has resurfaced and are gradually taking over the steering wheel of the GOP at the grassroots level. This type of speech is par for the course and highly predictable. They got into power with this misleading rhetoric many years ago and they're sure as hell going to go down fighting with it.
