Thoughts?

Personally I think Russia should invade and annex the Russian-speaking parts of Ukraine, particularly the Crimean Peninsula. Let the rest of Ukraine rot in the EU if that's what they want.

I think they will provide direct support to Ukraine's government. Getting bogged down is not in their interest. Eastern Ukraine is defacto Russia anyways. 90% of their business is with Russia.

Will the US invade Ukraine?

To force them to join the EU?

Highly likely I would imagine.

Russia's not going to give up Ukraine without a fight for a variety of different reasons.

Now, the question is, will the US try and tangle with Russia?

Lets hope not...

The Ukrainian gov't just gave it's military and police a go ahead to fire any weapon it feels necessary on CITIZENS;

Russia does not need to annex/invade Eastern Ukraine. Old school Eastern Ukrainian communists (Russian friends) are still deeply entrenched.

You're more likely to see EU/US/NATO troops then Russian ones, inside the Ukraine. You know...for the children.

The country should be divided peacefully. Catholic vs Orthodox, Ukranian vs Russian.

I doubt they would do so in order to force them to join the EU, given the EU is a rival world power, but they might try some sort of action to piss off Russia.

I've heard that they already have - not sure if its true. I work with someone who's family lives in Kiev, and he says that they claim the Russians are doing the violent resistance. The guy claims that the locals are still protesting, but they have been peaceful.

If I was a Ukrainian I would not be interested in being part of Russia or the EU ......

The leave the question of what to make of the people who see it fit to destroy and kill for the pleasure of being part of the EU

Socialist v Socialist.
No one wins but the banks.

Yes because we all know that all socialistic system are the same. There are never degree of it, its just one type and it will mean exactly the same profit for the bankers. We can tell this because every country in this world is to some degree running a socialistic system(except maybe Somalia) and yet the level of freedom is identical to each other. So yea, it doesn't matter what type or degree the socialism comes in, just sit back and relax cos the only option we have is socialism or no socialism.

That goes along with those of us who think...."How about no one invades anyone and leaves the Ukraine alone".

That is what Ukrainian elites tried to do. However neither Europe nor Russia are interested in letting them be independent.

What exactly do you mean by letting them be independent? Ukraine is in a lot of financial trouble, they import most of their heating oil from Russia, they are in partnership with Russia that allows them to sell to Russia with very low tariffs, on top of that they still owe Russia billions in unpaid gas bills.

They can be independent if they want, nobody is forcing them to do anything but it will come with consequences just like every irresponsible adult who is forced to move back to his parents house knows. Ukraine put it self into this bind and its not Russia or EU's fault that they require conditions for their assistance.

The Ukraine has already lost too much of its land due to Russian encroachment and imperialism. (not to mention Stalin's genocide)
