Will Rand vote to confirm Hagel?

I doubt if there will be any effort to actually filibuster his nomination. That would be pretty extreme.

If he doesn't he's a hypocrite for voting for Kerry. He should vote for Hagel to prove he's not a neocon and to oppose the peice of shit known as John McCain. Seriously... I rank McCain right up there with Stalin and Hitler.

I understand the phrase "thank you for your service" that people use for veterans but I'd love the chance to tell McCain, "Fuck you for your service". I've never seen a more disgusting person.

McCain left his wife after she was crippled when he returned from Vietnam... for a younger and much richer woman.

Nah. Anyone who would believe such a thing isn't worth the effort, because they have already proven themselves to be ignorant beyond belief.

No you are wrong. Sanctions on Iran and equating Israeli defense to the same as the US is typical neocon. Israel is the nation that provides Trotsky's permanent revolution strategy that the neocons embraced. Both of these stances by Rand make him suspect. The only reason I'll support him is that I think he's lying. If he isn't, he's a neocon.

What difference does it make? I don't think that Obama going to stop invading countries if Hagel is confirmed. This all seems like a distraction, at best.

The hearing turned into a pissing match of whether protecting Israel and invading Iraq was more important than the issues our own country faces.

It was an oppurtunity for Republicans like McCain and Cruz to let us know that they value another nation above ours.

Bullshit. You need to brush up on what a neocon really is.

McCain wants war. Any war will do and the more the better. Hagel doesn't seem to agree. So yeah, McCain isn't going to support him for this position.

This will be a party line vote. Rand will most likely vote no although Hagel is going to meet him next week as The Hill says he will be meeting with around 70 senators no GOPer with future ambitions will cast a vote for him. They may seek 5 GOP votes to ensure no filibuster can be successful and as i've pointed out they will get them from the old guard and people like Murkowski who's votes are openly for sale. Cochran has said he will support and Chambliss is retiring so there's another 2 votes, he only needs 2 more and it will be 60/40 or 61-39 vote.

Everybody's happy; old guard get to fatten their pension and lobbying career prospects when they retire, Murkowski brings home more pork for Alaska, Sanders and King meet the president and get to feel important and nothing really changes.

There isn't going to be any filibuster of Hagel's nomination, and it isn't clear cut at all that Rand will vote against confirming Hagel.

it doesn't matter if there is or not - any senator can choose to filibuster and you won't know about it until he does it (Cornyn says "everything on the table"). They usually seek 60 votes to ensure that it doesn't happen and that there an illusion of bipartisan support. They can do this by buying off some old time and retiring GOPers and Murkowski. 5 votes are easy to find on the GOP side, most senators are cheap.

I don't think there's any chance that Rand would vote to filibuster a President's cabinet pick. He may vote against confirming Hagel, but he won't vote to filibuster his nomination.

He will be expected to vote with his party if it happened and the tensions will be high so if he breaks the filibuster he will forever be vilified which is extremely damaging.

This is why they will make sure Hagel has at least 60 votes one way or another, through retiring members and those who can be bought off.

There is going to be no attempt to filibuster Hagel's nomination. That just doesn't happen with nominations for cabinet seats.
