Will Rand Paul Win 2015 CPAC Straw Poll? (update: Rand WINS!)

If Rand had come in 2nd, Fox News wouldn't be saying a word about him. With Walker they're just making a big deal about him coming in 2nd, talking about how "impressive" his performance was.

The presentation was really awkward, drawn out, and unprofessional. I liked previous years, when the guy just announced the results straight up.

If Walker would have won, they it would have been the first thing out of their mouths.

Fox News reaction:

1. One of the reasons Rand won was because 42% was under 25 yrs old.
2. Other headline Scott Walker did so well with only 5 points behind, boost for Scott Walker.
3. Bush camp has to be pleased to come in 5th (conspiracy theorists will say he stacked the deck with bus-ing people in)
4. Scott Walker love fest
5. Christie came in 10th behind Trump!
6. Analysis at 6:00pm EST

Fox news is sayin how "the other big story is Scott wallker in 2nd place - Rand has a better-known name due to his father (no thanks to you Fox!) -this will be a real boost for walker, blah, blah, blah…."

Walker hasn't had to deal with any heat from his own side yet. When the real attacks start happening he will sink with the rest of them.

Did you expect anything less? Rand threatens the war machine.

It seems like Rand should've received a higher percentage with that many young voters. I guess not all of the young voters are Rand Paul supporters/liberty movement people.

Straw polls are useless, except for one thing: generating hilarious, unhinged Paul-hater butthurt:

Scott Walker was the big winner. It’s not unexpected for a ‘Paul’ to win CPAC.

Paul-Bots. And Libertarianism likes fair play? LOL, by stacking the deck.
This is why nobody will take you idiots seriously, of course there's also the
Homosexual, Drugs, and all those other issues. They should be in the Dem convention.

That, or they didn't all vote, which is kind of a problem for younger people.

and Muckabee where he belongs at 0.3 % . .

and we won't have this as the first family.

I know they all like to point out how winning the straw poll is no indication of being the nominee or president, but I wonder if anyone has ever won 3 CPAC straw polls in a row? (not to mention that in the 3 straw polls before those, this candidates father won the two that he was there to compete in!)

CNN downplaying:

Rand Paul wins 2015 CPAC straw poll

Washington (CNN)Sen. Rand Paul won the Conservative Political Action Conference straw poll with 25.7 percent of the vote for the third year in a row on Saturday, the Washington Times announced Saturday at the National Harbor, Maryland, Confab.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker came in second place with 21.4 percent of the vote.

The closely watched survey of conference attendees represents a small but vocal faction of the Republican party, and the voters tend to be younger and libertarian leaning as many college students attend the gathering. Paul won in 2014 and 2013, and his father, a libertarian icon and former Texas congressman Ron Paul won in 2010 and 2011.2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney won that year.

The poll has added significance because it's the last CPAC gathering before the 2016 presidential primary season kicks off, thought it is merely a preliminary survey of conservative sentiment, and its past results have rarely been predictive of the GOP's eventual nominee. While Mitt Romney won it in 2012, Gary Bauer, Rudy Giuliani and Steve Forbes have all previously taken the top spot at the conference before fizzling out in the presidential contest.

In this year's survey, 3,007 participants voted.
