To address your edit:
The Qu'ran may permit rape and wife beating, but US law (and common law) would prohibit them as mala in se. The U.S. forbids things like purchasing raw milk and Cuban cigars, but I don't think that the law should be applied outside of a US Jurisdiction. If you commit rape in France, I think you should be charged by the French police. Wife beating in Pakistan is the problem of the Pakistanis alone and it is not our government's business to solve it. (As a side note, consumption of Cuban products is illegal for U.S. citizens, no matter where you are in the world.)
I think circumcision of infants (male/female) is barbaric. I think naked pyramids of Iraqi prisoners is barbaric. I think executing mentally retarded felons (which was legal a decade ago) is barbaric.
What about the fact that a good portion of the world is still rather barbaric? Wife-beating, on average, is something like 90%+ in most Islamic countries. This is due to the fact the Quran permits it. Rape is a common practice in large parts of the world, even a part of some nations' culture. I really don't see how it's beneficial or healthy to rely on the free market for immigration.
