Why The Atheists Fight

Indeed, we will not vote for Bob Barr, and Ron Paul refuses to give up the GOP status. I think a larger percentage of atheists will go Democrat this year, if not also to counter the Christian Rights influence in the government.

I'll just write in RP, and wait until I can vote for myself.

Behaving piously versus believing in faith versus obeying rituals religiously

The first thinking humans were atheists.
We are all born atheists.
We've existed in every generation, in every great period, and were the great thinkers and revolutionaries of the past. I could list an atheist from every generation, and well before Christianity (Aristophanes, Diogenes, Aristotle, Lucretius).

Plato wrote about pious entities like his concept of a Demiurge, a god that one could point a finger at, and the soul. Aristotle piously developed the use of science and rational thought specifically to prove that the beings of other animals outside of man along with the plants had souls.
Impiety was not allowed in ancient Greece. Such an accusation of impiety got Socrates brought to trial. The adult Greeks knew that the gods didn't exist; but, as they weren't beleivers in the godhood they had to be pious to them because of the national economy that worked around their existence.
Like the belief in Santa Claus, only the poorest Greeks, the ignorant Greeks or the very young Greeks truly believed in the mythological godhood. The intelligent Greeks had either been to the top of Mount Olympus or knew someone who had made the trip making it a well known fact at the time that no gods lived on top of the mountain.
The Greeks considered the lifestyle of the religious Egyptians as silly when compared to their own lifestyle; yet, they held a strict moral code which forbid Greeks from behaving impious. Another example of this would be the early male Puritans who had to carry a bible around with them in their right hands at all times.
So, you fail to seperate secular piety with that of worshipping a faith or that of obeying a religion when discussing a supposed history or tradition of atheism.

Why can't we all just live in a world of tellytubbies?

Well played, sir.

The point I was trying to make is that the natural state of the human mind is without a belief in a higher power. Babies are born godless and have to be taught to believe.

The use of psychosocial babel is very important when revisioning history.:D

There Are No Atheists

Why do the atheists always vote FOR the theists? It just seems kind of hypocritical to me.

That's because "atheists" are really theists, Truth Warrior. They act like it because they borrow from Christian capital in morality, justice, science, etc., at least in Western civilization.

Well that's certainly one answer. But not the one that I am looking for.;)

Thanks! :)

If that's not enough, salt into the wound...

As Jefferson stated... Separation of Church and State... but no person denied his religion and beliefs.

Even though there should a separation of church and state... $165,000 + Office + Staff + COLA + Expenses are picked up by the American Taxpayers for the House of Representatives chaplain!

Here's the link to the House Chaplain's Salary:

How are the agnostics, atheists, and a matter of fact, all religious faiths feel about this paid Catholic Chaplain now?

And just look at the current mess that the accumulation of theist "rule", over the centuries, has now brought the USA to. Tsk! Tsk! Tsk!

Roman Empire, deja vu redux! :p

Your fundamental problem is that you confuse "separation of Church and State" with "separation of religion and State." There's a difference. Remember, the Bill of Rights guarantees that our federal government will not enforce freedom from religion, but rather, freedom of religion. Check your lawyer about that. ;)

The fact remains that our country as always had chaplains on board in government to guide and aid in the religious well-being of our public officials, and that's because our nation was founded on religious principles, particularly of the Christian faith. Check this out when you get a chance.

I'm freed of religion.

:)

So, the original question still remains, does it not? :D

No, I already answered it. You cant get into a political race down there if you're not Christian. You just hanged yourself on the word "system" which wasn't the point.
