There are bacteria and fungi that live in soil that are crucial for healthy plants. That's why farmers in Iowa couldn't go organic if they wanted to, they've already destroyed their soil.
Those who are trying to debunk this organic thing need to seriously think about what would happen if we suddenly didn't have chemical fertilizers and pesticides. We'd be screwed because all of our growing soil would be COMPLETELY worthless.. Organic farming means you are keeping the environment healthy and thriving using natural methods that can be replicated over and over. Chemical fertilizers are (you guessed it..) petroleum based!
Real environmentalists know that our survival is dependent on a healthy ecosystem. Others believe we can just cement over everything and some how continue to have the resources we need to survive. That's putting a lot of faith in the system, man..
